If anything, it would make it bigger. All you do is bring more teams into the discussion.

But there could be 5 undefeated conference champions from P5 conferences and one gets left out.

There isn't going to be a #9 team with a good case to get in.

I'm fine with 4 though. I used to want 8, but have grown to love the 4.

Not ideal, but better in principle. A computer system or composite (and no polls) featuring formulas open to the public is ideal. This eliminates bias, agendas, and other chicken shite and puts the teams themselves in complete control of the general outcome.

Ive seen the hypothetical list going back to the inception of the BCS using a 4 team playoff. It is pretty strong and the BCS 4 team playoff is as ideal as anything I can think of. I would love to hear a better idea tho.

Your point is sound but you're knighting for a team that was dominated by Northwestern. It was an ugly loss. Stanford was a solid team and you're focusing on the ND loss, but the Northwestern loss cost them just as much if not more.

Having 6 teams with 2 byes is an outrageously dumb idea IMO.
Matter of opinion, and I'm not in favor of 6, but it isn't nearly as fun as the "5 conf champs +3" idea which doesn't even make mathematical sense.

I don't think we'll see 6 for two reasons:

The bye is such an incredible competitive advantage it is too much IMO.

Also, how would the money work? Do the 3 and 4 seeds keep the home game revenue? ADs may rather the revenue over the bye.

For the record, I love the idea of on-site games.

How you can make a "new" system that is still broken is beyond me.

It's because the "system" has always been flawed. 1A football limits the playoff to 3% of the teams, with little to no requirements to how those teams are chosen.

There is rarely debate regarding who gets in the NFL, MLB, NBA playoffs. And that's because they have set requirements to determine the participants. Sure there are some years where, due to division and conference alignments, some silly things happen and people get upset. But 1A college football has debate EVERY season.

The season is long enough with 12 games + bye week + conference championship.

I think 4 playoff teams are sufficient .

Clemson belongs:
Alabama belongs

Arguments for 8 teams :

Ohio State is probably better than Michigan State but the buckeyes lost the H2H.

Michigan State should have lost to Michigan.

Oklahoma lost to Texas but ran the table thereafter .

Ohio State only had one loss and handily won against Notre Dame:

Stanford : a team that had an ugly loss at northwestern to start the season but played well down the stretch. Had senior leadership at QB and offensive line + mccaffery. Well coached too.

A season in which there was no major conference undefeated teams? Every year people freak out and say this is they're but it never happens. It sorts itself out. Hell bama hasn't made it undefeated since 2009.

When you lose a game you lose your right to complain in college football.

I know you hate Alabama, but why would you not watch that game? When they're clicking, it's fricking magical. As a football fan, how do you not watch that?

Really? Did you eagerly consume last year's championship game?

the head of this. Hancock said they are not looking at changing the current contract in any way. And I think it is for 12 years. I have heard other coaches say 4 is enough.

Yes. I love CFB. I went to the Sugar Bowl last year and left with a smile on my face(mostly due to the circumstances of last year's Alabama team).

And what does that have to do with an LSU fan watching a semi final game? LSU has been an afterthought for almost 2 months now.

Saban lobbying for anything on behalf of something that benefits Bama is a great way to get opposition. Yes. Expansion to 8 is all but confirmed at this point.

U serious clark. cuz the head of this says not expanding under the current contract. If you listen to PF you would be much "smarter."

Only 3 major conference teams finished undefeated in 2009 (pre-bowls): Texas, Alabama, & Cincinnati. I use the term "major conference" loosely because the Big East was about to lose its automatic qualifier status. They were a mid-major conference in all but name.

Boise State was WAC, TCU was MWC.

Far from your doomsday scenario of 5 undefeated P5 teams (and an undefeated ND). Hell, Texas & Alabama were both incredibly fortunate to be undefeated that year, too.

Your scenario will never happen.
