If Sark can coach even a bit, this won't last long. UCLA has this year, but that's it (assuming the first sentence turns out to be true). USC had the best recruiting class in the Pac-12 this year even though it could only take 15 kids (Mora: "We were the bridesmaids. Heck, we might've been the ring girl on a couple of guys today. But we were in the wedding"). This will not change if Sark can coach and then the tide will turn. And quickly.

UCLA needs to win big this year. Stanford's defense was decimated to the draft. This is the best shot they got. IMO

It's not so much what UCLA has done that irks USC fans (because hey, not much) - it's that if they do anything slightly good, LA media treats them as suddenly great or the Kings of the town.

They upset USC ONCE out of SEVEN years in a row of losing to USC and suddenly in 2007 - LA is a UCLA town and they own the city. Well that didn't last long, as USC came back to route them 50-0 in 2011.

The LA media can't wait to crown them champs or more relevant than they really are...the are the Notre Dame of the West Coast...media exaggerating what they accomplish (almost nothing)

"When it comes to college football, Los Angeles clearly belongs to the Bruins. This is a Bruin football town, and has been a Bruin football town, and will continue to be a Bruin football town " - Bill Plaschke (2001)

Right before USC went on to win 7 straight Pac-10 titles.

And once again the LA (and now national media) is hopping on the Bruins wagon because they showed signs of not sucking last year (finishing 6-3 in the Pac-12 last year) - that's a down year for USC but a back to glory year for UCLA.

But now with Hundley returning, Plaschke proclaimed them National Champ favorites and kings of LA again...despite, even as he admits:

"This is a program that hasn't won a national title in 59 years, hasn't won a Rose Bowl in 28 years, and hasn't been close to any sort of title game since the Bruins were stunned in Miami in the final regular-season game of 1998, a loss that kept them out of the first BCS championship game."

But yeah, the Bruins own LA, are the favorites, the love-fest continues for such a mediocre program...and now the over-hyped, quite amusing love-fest has gone national.

Do you math?

If a team is ranked 1 but should be 10, 9 teams (teams 2-10) would be underrated while 1 team (the team ranked 1) would be overrated.

USC earned their hype on the field by winning 7 straight conference titles and going on a 34-win streak last decade and two titles and two Heismans.

UCLA hasn't done shite...and didn't do shite last decade...and still the LA Times promotes them and gave them all the praise in the world if they could just hang with the Trojans in a game. It would be like praising Oklahoma for losing 55-16.

USC earned all their media coverage and then some...LA Times has an agenda with the Bruins.

We call the LA fishwrap the ucLA Times for a reason. If you want pro-Trojan news in your SoCal sports digest, read the OC Register.

Hear about the flooding at ucla's Pauley Pavilion?
They were able to drain it quickly, because ucla sucks!

Well, it's just funny to me to see Bill Plaschke's pipe-dream go national (with so many outside the Pac-12 jumping on the UCLA bandwagon...as if they know two-cents about UCLA)

I guess being on around the horn and whatnot...Bill's title favorites are now a national favorite and a favorite on the MSB - because they whipped VaTech in a crappy bowl game and Hundley is coming back (as if leaving was ever a reality)...and that's all anyone knows who is posting in this thread about UCLA being Top 4.

Dude, still can't throw on target.

But whatever, UCLA sure has the same pedigree of USC for everyone to give them the benefit of the doubt...expect greatness from UCLA, maybe they will win a Rose Bowl before 50 years is up.

I think the PAC 12 is gonna come down to either UCLA or Oregon. All of Stanford's tough games the past season were all at home. Now they have to play at UCLA, ASU, Washington and Oregon and I see at least two losses there. I heard a good number of Oregon players gained a lot of weight, so hopefully the Ducks will finally be able to beat Bama lite.

I believe that quote was after UCLA had beaten USC again, the series record of 8 straight times, in the 90s when you guys weren't all that. Plaschke was writing his usual drivel to incise readers. During the 00's the paper was all USC, it's LA they go with the current winner.

Stop getting your panties in a knot, it's a preseason poll, and we all know how that shapes up at the end of the season.

Hundley had some issues last year, part of that was him, part of that was the lack of a running game due to all of our RBs being injured, and part of that was because he was playing behind three true/rs freshman lineman for most of the season. You are just being dishonest if you doubt his ability to throw and be a Heisman quality QB. As for him leaving early, look who was drafted in the first round, you doubt he would have been a first rounder?

Anyways, I look forward to UCLA making it three in a row.

Because that's easy.

Real prediction...

This will be the most cut-throat-free-for-all-open-hunger-games season in the the Pac-12's short history.

Oregon isn't all that - UCLA (certainly isn't) Stanford will decrease a little, Arizona's rising, USC is still USC, UW...new Sheriff in town...OSU doing the upsets, Utah staying strong, Cal...well, Cal is Cal...Wazzu mad pirate maybe putting it all together this year.

Anyone predicting the Pac-12 this year is a fool...

UCLA, Oregon or Stanford aren't any better heading into this year than about half the conference.

UCLA finished 6-3 in conference last year. And they were supposed to be the tits...and they lost 3 conference games.

Trust me, they'll lose conference games.

Nobody is going undefeated in the Pac this year just like last year and the year before...

People worry about the SEC and the playoff - oh, it's so tough - boo-hoo - we won't get invited.

The Pac won't get invited. The slam-dunk is the Big10 winner will get invited because they will probably be perfect or 11-1.

SEC winner will still probably be 11-1 with all the non-confernce crap games filling 1/3 of your schedule and the other 1/3 being filled with lifelong SEC bottom-feeders who couldn't beat a WAC team.

The Pac Conference is stacked this year plus the burden of playing the extra conference game unlike other conferences. IF you win it, you might have 3 losses.

I think if Oregon beats Michigan State on Week 2, that'll help the PAC 12's argument, regardless of who wins it.

That's a problem? WTF kind of fan wants to play 2nd fiddle to a rival? Sounds like any normal fan base to me.

Congrats on beating a team with 30 less players than you a whopping 2 times in a row. You guys own L.A.!

I don't care but I don't get this ucla love fest around here. They are solid but playoff bound?
