I remember CUSA being a great basketball conference when all of these teams were in it:

Cincinnati
DePaul
Houston
Louisville
Marquette
Memphis
St. Louis

UNC-Charlotte had some good teams then

Pretty sure MS is in top 5 in NFL players per capita, maybe even #1. They have good players, but the population isn’t large like Texas or Florida.

Southern Miss killed itself. From 1980-2010 they were in a league largely populated with high profile schools. And to their credit they delivered on the football field. But the second things went bad - they made one bad hire- they were broke, starting selling off games, etc. They banked nothing from that affiliation from 1980-2010. Their attendance isn't great, the market isn't great and they have an institutional profile similar to a dozen southern schools. They lost it.

It's a joke most of the group of five conferences are in the same subdivision as the big boys. They exist only to serve as paycheck game fodder. It's the antithesis of sport.

The Go5 needs to be their own thing, have their own playoff and champion.

Would like to see the AAC kick Tulane and add UAB and BSU.

they don’t want to do that. They think they’re big time college football

that is dumb. Tulane is doing well in the American. they aren't kicking it out for a regional school in Alabama, whose own state government won't let it succeed.

The G5 needs to do something though. They are in playoff purgatory. Those kids have absolutely no kind of national championship to play for. I feel like one big final major merger/realignment needs to happen in the G5.

AAC:

Cincinnati
UCF
Memphis
Marshall
Navy
Temple
ECU
USF

BYU
Boise St
Colorado St
San Diego St

Tulsa
Houston
SMU
Tulane

This HAS to happen for the AAC. It needs to be their top priority. It has been made perfectly clear to them...not once...but twice...that the league as currently constructed isn't good enough in the eyes of the CFP. They need MORE quality programs. The schools in bold are exactly what the conference needs to boost their strength. Marshall should be doing everything the can to get into the AAC!!

As for CUSA, it truly does need to finally just break up. Those schools need to find new homes in either the MAC, SBC or MWC.

Sun Belt:

Coastal Carolina
App St
Georgia St
Ga Southern
Troy
FAU
UAB
FIU

Louisiana
S Alabama
Texas St
Arkansas St
ULM
Louisiana Tech
Southern Miss
Middle Tenn St

That would be a great new Sun Belt Conference!!! It would easily become a top mid major conference.

So that leaves WKU, Charlotte, UTSA, UNT, RICE, UTEP from CUSA to find new homes. Too easy, WKU and Charlotte go to the MAC and the rest form a new conference with the MWC leftovers...new Southwest Conference?

Southwest Conference:

UTEP
UTSA
UNT
Air Force
Rice
Wyoming
New Mexico

New Mexico St
Nevada
San Jose St
Fresno St
Hawaii
Utah St
UNLV

MAC:

Buffalo
Kent St
Akron
Ohio
Miami OH
Liberty
Charlotte
Army

Ball St
Western M
Central M
Eastern M
N Illinois
Bowling Green
Toledo
W Kentucky
