That's like being pissed off at a museum because they have a painting of the civil war and a soldier is carrying the confederate flag.

(1) They just took The Dukes of Hazard off the air, so there really isn't anything about this situation that is rational.

(2) Hubba Watson is a brand. He has sponsorships and makes a lot of money via commercial endorsements. He's marketed to the public as this semi-likable good ol' boy who never had a golf lesson, but you can bet that he has a team of professionals advising him on everything. Of course he was advised to do something about the Confederate flag painted on the roof of that car.

It's not like he had a confederate flag painted on his primary vehicle that he drives around town.

In that case I can see your point.

But this is a collectors item he has stored in his garage that was part of a TV show.

The idea that he feels he needs to paint over the flag on the top of the car is insane.

It would be like if I had a painting of the battle of Gettysburg in my own house that had a soldier holding a confederate flag and I felt the need to paint over it.

I mean it's just crazy.

Still stupid and pandering.

No big deal, but you and I simply see this differently.

(1) I understand that it shouldn't matter. But, you are trying to look at this from a logical standpoint. Nothing about this witch hunt has been logical. Like I said earlier, one network just took re-runs of a harmless, 35 year-old TV show off the air because of this issue. You don't think they were pressured into doing that? Owning a car from that show, with that symbol on the roof, potentially made Bubba Watson a target.

(2) Your analogy about yourself and a painting in your home is irrelevant, because you aren't a public figure. Millions of people know who Bubba Watson is, and the networks who cover golf have publicized his ownership of that car dozens of times. By now, almost everybody who knew of Bubba Watson also knew he owned that car.

I get it. You think Bubba Watson just woke up one morning and decided to paint over that Confederate flag.

I don't think it played out that way at all.

Instead of destroying the General Lee which is now the General Grant, he should have sold it and he would have gotten way more than he paid for it.

That's not what I'm saying.

I'm saying he didn't need to do it because I doubt anybody cares that Bubba Watson has that car.

He wouldn't lose any sponsors and everything would keep moving along fine if he didn't bring up his car at all and let it all blow over.

It's not like people were protesting that he owns the car and demanding that he sell it or paint it.

How do you know his sponsors weren't?

A week ago, TV Land was showing re-runs of The Dukes of Hazard, too.

I'm just saying, I guarantee you that Bubba had at least one meeting with his team, also maybe his sponsors, about this matter. You think they didn't know that he was going to start getting questions about it?

I think they decided to take preemptive action on the matter. I mean, he obviously didn't have a problem with it before now, did he?

This imaginary war in Southerner's mind is so funny.

Used to be in mine, and it was very easy to let it go. The only reason I held onto the fight for as long as I did was because of petty, immature spite, and that's exactly what's going on right now.

These people aren't racists, and they know the flag is the white version of black guys' sagging pants, but damned if they're going to give it up because a bunch of know-it-all yankees told them to.

It's such a silly fight because it's so easy to just give it up, and deep down every southerner knows that he loses nothing by giving up this stupid, petty fight.

if he's such an outspoken, holy rolling "Christian", why buy the one care KNOWN to have that symbol that represent treason and oppression? yeah....

not saying the dude's a racist at all, and i personally think he just loved the show, had a chance with his ample bank account to buy the car from that show and jumped on it... but to think that this was his decision, or that he even really wants to paint over it, is absolutely ludicrous... if he was so concerned about the flag in the first place he would have painted over it a LONG time ago... but he didn't...

and yeah i get that, and he's totally free to change is mind, but IMO to use the holy roller angle as a reason for him painting over it, like he all of a sudden had an epiphany of how wrong that flag was, is incorrect....

if he's as "christian" as he's being made out to be by this comment, then one would think that he should/does have a problem with that flag and for what it was known to be associated with/flown for, and as a result he would either 1.) not buy the car as to not associate himself with the flag or 2.) buy the car and paint the flag straight away....

my problem is the "christian" angle of the comment, not that he is painting it, or that he even has the car in the first place.... i'm speaking more of the religious hypocrisy than anything about Watson, really...

Lotta crazy things in the news. It can affect people. I think we are rushing to judgment if we assume that he's just being fake.

i don't think he's being "fake", per se... i think it's more disingenuous, than anything.....

to say he's faking assumes he's a racist... i don't think that's necessarily the case... i'm not saying he's a racist, as i, just like everyone else here, don't know the personal affects of Bubba Watson...

Bubba, I have worked just as hard in this life as you have. And I am offended at how much more money you have than me. If your answer to this is that "life isn't fair". Then I suggest to you that if someone has to look at the original general lee car and is offended, then "life isn't fair"

No, racism is why southerners don't want to give. All those complaining about Watson's decision are racists.
