No, it just stands for "still white supremacy but don't confuse us for surrendering our cause"

No that was what the blood red stain was added for.

Anyway as evidenced from this thread, it obviously has different meanings to different people. Hoping it doesn't go the way of the swastica.

Ding ding ding....He didn't want it to be confused with a surrender flag during battle....but it still stood for "white superiority over the negro". Believe that was his words.

Plus the original flag looked too much like the "yankee" flag during battle.

I was watching something about the civil war and you can see them using the original flag during the earlier battles...then you'd see the flag of "northern Virginia" used in battles.

Both flags rep the South, one wasn't used during Integration as a fight against race mixing...

I have no problem with this flag...Don't know why people are upset about this one..

But I see why they are upset about this one...what year did Georgia make this their state flag...and why. Now do people see what the fuss is over...lol.

Look the date and see when that current confederate flag appeared...what happened for them to change it from the original confederate flag lol.

1956 flag

The Georgia state flag that was used from 1956 to 2001 featured a prominent Confederate battle flag and was designed by Southern Democrat John Sammons Bell, a World War II veteran and an attorney who was an outspoken supporter of segregation.[4] During its official usage as the state flag, some Georgia residents found it offensive and objectionable.

The 1956 flag was adopted in an era when the Georgia General Assembly "was entirely devoted to passing legislation that would preserve segregation and white supremacy", according to a 2000 research report by the Georgia senate.

Thank you...either
1. they don't know their history,
2. they are ignorant
3. or racist...

Hope it's the first one as bad as all 3 sound. These people know what the current flag stands for....Older whites know what it means...that's why some of the southern republicans are saying it's time for it to go. Sheesh.

I got my dates wrong. I said it became popular in the 60's...guess Georgia was pissed about those sit ins during the 50's...

I believe South Carolina put it on their state house in 1961...too lazy to look up the date... but know why it was put up.

What galls me is how some (on both sides) try to make support/opposition of the flag a simple right/left issue.

I take that as a personal affront (you know my political druthers ) and a sign of laziness.

There is not one good reason for that flag to be celebrated in 2015. Shame, because I actually like its appearance, but c'est la vie.

I agree...I have nothing against it...other blacks I know don't want them to get rid of it...Hell I want the supporters to keep it on their vehicles, fly it outside their house, stores, wear it on your clothing, etc..

That way I know how they feel...flaunt that shite...don't need anymore undercover klansmen/racists. Having it fly on govt property doesn't bother me. That's up to that individual state and their constituents...If Missouri had it on our state capitol grounds....oh well....if my native state(Louisiana) had it currently flying in Baton Rouge...oh well...I'm still going to make my money and live my life.

Hey, I'm just glad Texas has more of a boner for the Lone Star than the rebel flag, tbh

But I agree that those who want to wear it/flaunt it of their own accord are more than free to do so.

I like to know what kind of person I'm dealing with, as well.

The confederate flag, like saggy pants and neck tattoos, is helpful because it helps me spot the assholes I want to avoid.

Whatever floats your boat. I'm just letting you know it's not always intended to be racist. And the Dukes of hazard car is a prime example of when it's not.

That's a cop out. The majority of folks who display what we call a swastika today do it with religious intentions, but it means something different in the West.

Even if you try to separate the flag from its blatantly racist origins (a disingenuous proposition at best), there is no mistaking it is in poor taste to display.

4. many just don't care what others think.

I fell into #4 for awhile until I realized that "not caring what others think" creates dylan roofs

I wonder if TV networks told the people from Duck Dynasty, Party Down South, Swamp people, other shows filmed in the south to not display the flag....Notice you never see any Confederate flag shirts, bandanas, but you see the American flag...they all have southern pride and rednecks.lol.

I've never seen a confederate flag when they have meals with others that aren't regulars on the show...or partying out in the boonies, having mud parties, etc...never see flag on people's trucks, don't see it in the country bars where they dance, etc. How dare the liberal TV shows tell them to hide that flag.

Maybe they're not true southerners/no southern pride...maybe their family supported the union....or maybe they are just actors from Hollywood planted in the south to film shows.

Southerners should just start flying the actual flag of the Confederacy.

You could fly it over government buildings and the ignorant masses wouldn't know the difference. Problems solved.

I've watched a couple of his interviews. He comes across as personable (which is a little misleading in his case), but he isn't exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer.
