Perhaps the underlying sentiment from Harper's side of the Papelbon debacle was that Harper realized that Papelbon's actions could be taken out on Harper himself. Intentionally beaning someone is kind of a risky game...the guy getting hit can get hurt and that can cost his team wins in the long run. That's a fairly dangerous and shitty way to go about retribution.

I like players sticking up for teammates, but at the same time it shouldn't come at the cost of another team's best player's or any other player's health.

I want to hate Bryce, based on his antics, based on the team he plays for, based on his silly suburbanite name, but dang he hustles and is fun to watch.

And I don't really care about pitchers beaning batters. At least not in the NL where they have to face a 95 mph fastball as well. All part of the game.

As a Braves fan, I now know what mets fans felt for years with Larry.

95 to the head can kill you, helmet or not... it needs to be taken out of the game

I never said to the head. Hip or back is fine. I just don't like it when AL pitchers do it. They never have to stand in the box and face it themselves.

Tackling in football can also kill someone and has. Should that be taken out of the game also?

Hell of an argument. Let's see...

Tackling is an absolute requirement in football.

Pegging batters in retribution for showboating isn't.

One sport can't exist without it. One sport is made better without it.

is that why there's a million adult flag football leagues across the country?

Doesn't seem all that mandatory to me.

A pitch will have always have a slight chance to hit a batter in the head no matter if they're going for retribution or not.

Football =/= flag football. Two different sports there, honcho.

Tackling isn't mandatory in football. I've heard it all.

Lol I mean I played college football and have played flag football and they aren't that far from one another other than like you said, tackling, which has killed more people than fastballs have hitting a batter.

That's what you have to do when your only argument is "that's the way it's always been."

He's like A.J. Pierzynski: he's a jerk but if he's on your team, he's your jerk and you won't let anyone diss him.

I don't think the same is true for harper. Papelbon aside, which honestly Papelbon incident i think made harper more likeable, I don't think the same rings true for harper.
