Here's how I understand waivers:

Team places player on waivers, if he his claimed, the original team has the option of pulling the player back but they can't trade him for 30 days.

If team does not pull player back, they can either:

He can dump player and salary for no player back from claiming team

Can trade him with claimed team, any person on 40 man roster involved in trade would have to clear waivers first

If not claimed and clear waivers, they can trade him to any team

How did the whole Alex Rios thing and the White Sox shake out last year? The Sox claimed him and then the Blue Jays just said "Okay, fine...you can have him, but you have to pay him." There was no trade, right? So, if the Phils claim ARam, they're on the hook unless the Cubs say to nix the deal. Right?
Correct. If someone claims Aramis Ramirez, and the Cubs just want to dump his salary, they can give him away to the claiming team for nothing in return.

The Braves are no longer interested in Aramis.

From Mark Bowman:
While searching for a replacement for Jones, Atlanta explored the option of acquiring Aramis Ramirez from the Cubs. But the Braves' interest in the third baseman seemingly died when he was unwilling to rework some of the guarantees in his contract.

Ramirez has a $14.6 million player option that he will likely exercise for the 2011 season. In addition, if the Cubs trade him, the $16 million option he has for the 2012 season becomes guaranteed.

That's a lot of money to pay someone who will likely only be healthy for half a season each of the next two years.

I have no idea why Jim Hendry is still the GM of this team.

I dunno... but he should probably trade Colvin for Carlos Lee.

I'd bet Lee would clear waivers.

The Cubs only have to pay him one more year.

But if he's traded and activates is 2011 option, the 2012 option is guaranteed. Since he wants to activate his 2011 option, and the Cubs are looking to trade him, the Braves would be on the hook for a shite ton of money (assuming the Cubs don't shovel money their way, too).

He's basically untradeable unless ARod breaks four legs and thirteen fingers and the Yankees need a 3B.

I don't know about trading Freeman but Aramis is being a bit underrated here.

This guy's been a .900 plus OPS guy for the last 6 years. He got off to an awful start, then went on the DL and in the two months or so he's been back he's put up a .958 OPS. He's only 32.

The problem is Chipper. If I knew he wasn't coming back I would be more than fine with this, just replace his salary with Aramis. Cause lets face it we can say were going to go out and get Carl Crawford but we probably won't.

Because the Braves were smart

No way they would even ask about them with his current salary
