If this happens, we would need to get his word that he wouldn't accept his player option next year for almost 15M but I don't know why he would do that

which is why this won't happen

He's already told the Cubs that he's planning on exercising this option, which is probably why the Cubs are shopping him.

Would be a step in the right direction for the Cubs, they need to blow the big pieces up on that team. Hopefully Zpack can have a couple more good outings for you all and you can move him wihtout having to eat 80% of his contract

From what I read on his contract page, it looks like his 2012 16M team option becomes guaranteed if he is traded and he exercises his 2011 option.

15.6 M in 2011
16 M in 2012

I can't believe we passed on signing a SS with top of the draft talent to save less than a Million dollars to put towards a fricking trade.

This would make no sense. With Chipper about to Favre the Braves this offseason, we're gonna need a couple of youngsters to step it up at the MLB level next season. Freeman and Minor are almost locks, and I could see Schafer make a push for CF.

I read that this morning. If it's Ramirez for Freeman, the Cubs win out big time.

If we trade Freddie, then who will play first next year?? Hobble legs Glaus? Frank Wren is not stupid, he's already proven he isn't trading our top young stars. Instead he traded Blanco who isn't an everyday MLB starter anyways.

Chipper's gimp arse can play first.

This is easy when you use your brain. But, Aramis wants to exercise his option next year. I think that may be a big hang up. The Braves could make a good run next year with him at 3B and Chipper coming back at 1B, but they'll have to pay for it.

I agree. The move could benefit both sides. ARam has heated up the second half, and the Braves need to add a bat to hold off the Phils.

You gotta pay to play though.

I'm suprised this is leaking before he's put on waivers, I'm sure someone (Phils) might block this

How did the whole Alex Rios thing and the White Sox shake out last year? The Sox claimed him and then the Blue Jays just said "Okay, fine...you can have him, but you have to pay him." There was no trade, right? So, if the Phils claim ARam, they're on the hook unless the Cubs say to nix the deal. Right?
