Personally, I don't care what any set of fans wish to call their school...they can all knock themselves out.
Having said that, LSU is a flagship of a system and UL@L is a member of a system that has no flagship.
Seems pretty clear to me why one has a city attached and one doesn't, but each to our own.

NIH, I don't know where you live, but the hate that many ULL fans have for LSU is very real. Not sure if you're seriously blind to it, or just want to downplay it for some reason.

WOW!!! This fricking thread is pathetic. ULL, UL, USL, or whatever will always be at a lower level than LSU (academically and athletically). That's why LSU IS the flagship school and the others are regional schools. LSU fans and ULL fans know this. There's not a ULL fan out there that will argue this point, yet LSU fans will argue it all day.
People in and around Lafayette should support their local school. And yes, some do hate LSU mainly because of the arrogance these haters feel that LSU fans have. And some LSU fans hate ULL fans because they don't bow down to the all mighty flagship school.
This thread shows how fricking petty some LSU fans are. Some people in Lafayette only pull for the Cajuns. Some pull for the Cajuns and LSU. Some pull for LSU only. What's wrong with that. Everybody doesn't have to LOVE LSU. Folks need to just get over it.
Hell I know more than a few people in Baton Rouge who pull for Bama and hate LSU.

Those diehard UL fans make me sick. I got boo'd by the entire student section this past fall for wearing an lsu hat. It was quite the episode, easily 300 students in the area.
I expected some ragging but some douche got in my personal space and started cursing and saying 'frick lsu!' I politely balled my fist and told him to go back where he came from.. Then as I turned around and some blonde grabbed my hat off my head, I immefiately snatched it back (had a full beer in my hand), told her I would poor the F'n beer on her if she didn't gtfo my face. Her mouth dropped and she genuinly looked scared.
The student section then welcomed me and were like 'frick that guy, we would've whipped his arse if something happened'
Eta: this is in between two sections on the stairs so the whole event was seen by everybody, plus everybody was looking to see what the uproar was for. I had many friends there that didn't even realize it was me until telling the story later.

I live in Lafayette...and I never said it doesn't exist but it's not as relevant as people here make it out to be. The truth is people enjoy having a perception that everyone hates them and their team. For proof just look at all the visiting reports in the fall for fans visiting other schools.

I disagree. It's much more relevant than any other places with such an irrelevant program hating a major university. Not exactly sure why, but it's pretty over the top comparably.

Probably because the school is bigger than all those listed and b.) close to BR but a city of it's own. Lafayette is much different from Thibodeaux and Hammond. Again, I don't know many of these people but it's whatever. I guess because some guy said frick LSU to posters here at the Keg that means everyone here hates LSU.
