Just caught this bit from an article from the Hollywood Reporter on some things coming to fruition for HBO in the near future. It's pretty lengthy and weighed down with some non-MSB stuff, I'll quote the bits on Simmons himself.

quote:

And the network will ramp up from there, with plans for more of the addictive Robert Durst docuseries, a not-yet-announced 1970s porn drama from The Wire's David Simon and, if all goes as planned, a platform for ESPN cast-off Bill Simmons. While HBO executives are staying mum, multiple sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the network is in talks for a major multipart deal with the biggest media personality in sports (more on that later).

quote:

Considerably more likely is Simmons, whom the network is said to have made a big play for after his unceremonious booting from the more corporate ESPN. Such a move would be straight out of the HBO playbook, which famously provided a creative reprieve for former ABC flameout Bill Maher many years earlier. Though Simmons is said to have several suitors, insiders say conversations at HBO have focused on a TV show — something Simmons is believed to want — along with heavy digital extensions that make the prolific personality tailor-made for the HBO Now era.

pretty good combo there since HBO doesn't have the rights to anything worth a damn, so they'll give him a pretty long leash

Could be awesome. Maybe pair it up with John Oliver's show.

Oh man. It'd be a pretty good show on that network, but the Simmons fan boys and their hyperbole for it will be off the charts.

It'd be awesome if they could do some 30 for 30-esque stuff with HBO's leeway and his hand in production.

I watch so little non-sports events that it doesn't really matter to me what network he goes to cause I probably won't ever see him. But I want his podcasts and internet presence back.

Seems like HBO and Simmons could be a really good fit. I would think that this would give him a lot more freedom than he had at ESPN.

I think they would give him an Executive Producer role at HBO Docs and turn him loose to do a 30 for 30 type of series for them.

I could also see him having a weekly HBO show on sports and interviews, not Real a Sports but his own thing

I don't even much care about Bill Simmons at all, nor did I read him or watch him outside of games, but from what happened and how ESPiN has been for years now I hope he goes to HBO and his first show he dishes all kinds of shite on them

I know he won't but it would be funny to just have him come right out and say, "frick ESPN".

Give him a talk show and let Artie Lange go on it and troll the shite out of him.

I love Artie Lange and I love how he undressed Buck, but I think Simmons can match wits with him honestly. NOW THAT, would be great TV.
