But we're not talking about his lack of a championship.

team stat

look at the list of his teammates in playoff games. i posted it (from the article). could anybody win a title with that group? no

this is TMac's line during his prime...in the playoffs (also from the article)

quote:

29.5 ppg, 6.9 rpg, 6.5 apg, 42.6 mpg, 43-30-75%, 24.5 FGA, 9.1 FTA, 25.4 PER, 35.3 usage

he played his arse off in the playoffs during his prime

quote:

I don't recall this 3-4 year stretch where he was the best player in the league.

in the early-mid 00s, it was Shaq v. Kobe v. TMac

quote:

If you're the best player you can carry your team to a playoff series win at least once

again, team stat. he did his job (look at his stats). the teams around him just sucked

was KG suddenly a HOF player when he was traded to Boston?

The consensus top 5 players from the early-to mid-2000s were:

Shaq
Duncan
Kobe
T-Mac
KG

With guys like Dirk, Webber and Iverson getting consideration. T-Mac led the league in PER in 2002-03, when Shaq was still in his prime. And that was on an Orlando team that had nothing around him.

If freaking Joe Dumars is a HOFer so is McGrady
a perrenial All defense team player. A conssummate team player on championship Piston teams. And a clutch scorer when needed.

That is an incredibly stupid comparison.

Dumars is a much more accomplished player than Battier. Look up the credentials. 6 time NBA Allstar. Dumars made 1st team All defensive teams. Battier despite his good D I don't think made any 1st team defensive teams. And Dumars was versatile relieving Isaiah Thomas at point guard a lot.

well i was speaking more in terms of the arguments. duncan is/was always forgotten in those

also, duncan was always really really good but rarely has transcendent seasons. tmac, kobe, and shaq all had those

it was just an example of how dumars was a notch above role player. his offense was average and he was a beta

TMac was much better as a basketball player than dumars

you get to pick either in his prime for your team. who do you pick?

I'm pickin Dumars. McGrady despite his offensive prowess played no defense. Dumars was just a better all around player.

that is 100% wrong

but it's often the arguments for people who take the stances i referenced earlier regarding super-talented naturals

some of you people are really laughable. You say no to something that's dead on. Blockin some shots here and there mostly for highlights doesn't qualify for a top defender. McGrady make any defense teams? hell no. despite being 6'9". Maybe if he had played better D Houston would have won some of those playoff series.

what statistical evidence are you using to make that conclusion?

TMac was a stopper in toronto who had to shift more energy to offense in orlando/houston, but still had tons of stocks every year

he was 5th in NBA defensive win shares in 04/05
