After a lot of pissing and moaning about it, The B1G will go to a 9 game conference schedule in 2017.

A) I don't understand how this will be "fair", half the teams will have more away than home conference games.
B) Think this paves the way to add 2 more teams before then?

I really don't understand how teams approved this, because it means losing one home game every two years basically, and the revenue it brings.

It will be the first full nine-game conference schedule for the Big Ten since the 1983 and 1984 seasons. Eight of 10 conference schools played nine-game schedules during the 1981 and 1982 seasons, while two of 10 teams featured nine-game schedules from 1971-72 and 1977-80.

And Nebraska will be among those schools to host five conference games that season. Others schools with five home games in 2017 are Iowa, Michigan State, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio State. That reverses in 2018.

SEC and ACC might have to do same to keep up
Scheduling will be tougher and you can't afford the BCS hit by playing 4 non conference games with lower competition

you make more money on conference games since you don't have to pay a guarantee...

Yea, but you have one less home game every other year.

I think this is bad for marquee out of conference games too.

B1G is putting the pressure on ND to join. This will make it a lot tougher for ND to schedule Michigan, MSU and Purdue now.

Michigan, MSU, and Purdue will keep playing ND. No way they give that up.

The B1G will cash in with this. More B1G games (as opposed to Big East and ACC games) will mean more money.

Prediction: SEC eventually follows suit, and then the big dawgs push for a 14-game sked saying that the two extra games would help fund the non-rev sports a little more.

I think it's good for college football, provided teams will continue to play at least one OOC BCS team. My fear is 9 game schedules will deter future great regular season OOC matchups.

but keep in mind, a team that wins the BigTen will now face 9 conference teams, at least one decent OOC team(like a notre dame) and then the Championship game.... if someone can make it through that schedule undefeated it would be impressive.

I agree with this. And this would definitely make sense if the SEC does expand to 14 teams. But I certainly wouldn't be opposed to a 14 game season.

The extra conference game is largely overblown; in the P12's case, the ninth conference game has pretty much taken the place of a good OOC game. It's good for a conference that makes money. After all, what would you rather have--Iowa playing Syracuse and half the money going to the B1G, or Iowa playing Michigan State and all the money going to the B1G?

The 9th conference game had virtually no effect on the P10/12's SOS; same will go for the B1G.

And honestly, I'd rather see LSU play a 9th SEC team than play Oregon or West Virginia or Arizona or Washington or North Carolina, etc...

I don't see that happing.

The SEC doesn't need the SOS boost. Too many big nonSEC rivalary games, Clemson, GA Tech, A&M, Fla. State. Plus the $$$ for the extra home game is greater than any other conference.

What does this mean? Are you saying that LSU, Alabama and Florida make more money from a home game than OSU, Michigan or PSU?

No?

He's saying you make more money playing Kent St at home than playing on the road at Indiana.

It will have nothing to do with SOS; it will be a money thing. If the B1G starts creeping up on the SEC in terms of money, the SEC will do something. And if the B1G and the SEC get together and petition for a 14-game season, they'll probably succeed.

Both the SEC and B1G have four "permanent" OOC rivalries.

Football players will still miss less class than any other sport's players, too.

I predict that within 10 years, there will be a 14-game schedule, and most conferences, if big enough, will play 10 conference games.

B1G teams will still have 7 home games a year. How many does LSU have this year?

OSU had 8 last year I think. They don't have to have 7.

Fact is right now teams can have 16 home games over two years. In 2017 they can have 15 home games over two years. They are missing out on that revenue no matter what way you cut it.

how do you figure?.... Oregon played 9 conference games last season and played UT in Knoxville... that's 10 BCS opponents. Auburn played 8 conference games, Clemson, and the SECCG... 10 BCS Opponents.

Nine conference games + OOC BCS Opponent + Championship Game is going to be more difficult.

The B1G makes more money from:
a) Penn State vs. Syracuse, home/away
b) Penn State vs. Purdue, home/away

The MAC schools will still be on the B1G sked; don't worry. The 9th B1G game, more often than not, will replace an OOC BCS game. The B1G will cash in on this, no doubt.
