You clearly dont understand the point of this do you? They are one of the best team that didnt win a title.

They lost by 1 point @UK early in the season

No, you said they "would have won the title"...that's what you said. Don't back off your statement. I assume you went to UNC and had the benefit of some of the classes they offer their athletes.

And, early in the season? You do recognize that being early in the season hurt UK more than UNC, right? You don't think UK's freshman PG and freshman C (Anthony Davis) got better as the year went on? Meanwhile, UNC's core: Zeller (sr.), Henson (jr.), Bullock (So.), Barnes (So.), Marshall (So.).

Go spew nonsense on your UNC boards...UK was the far better team that year.

2001 Zona was pretty stacked,

them and 1999 duke are the best of the last 20 years(i didn't see 91 unlv, etc). 01 Zona actually underachieved the whole season(preseason #1 team, and i think were a 2 seed in the tourney) but they were absolutely loaded(arenas and RJ were nba all star level talents) and turned it on during the tournament. they just ran into one of the best national title teams of recent memory in 01 duke. 1999 duke is probably the best team, they were fricking stacked.

i would say 3rd place would be 97 north carolina, with jamison and carter.

05 illinois was a nice team, and really fun to watch, but they were way too thin inside, and no depth, and basically started 2 point guards.

edit- someone mentioned 97 kansas as well who probably go overlooked since they lost in the sweet 16, to the same team that beat 97 unc.

Was that 01 Arizona team the one with Edgerson and Jefferson?

Only reason I remember Edgerson was his fro, knee pads and high socks.

the core of that team was arenas, jefferson, walton, and i think jason gardner. I'm pretty sure they had two 7 footers as well.

edit- arizona's 97 title team had two 7 footers, their 01 team had one 7 footer, plus michael wright and eugene edgerson.

Im not backing off at all. Your reasoning why they wouldnt have won is because UK already won the first matchup...by one fricking point.

Nice...you're the only person who watches college basketball in non-UNC gear who believes UNC was the better team.

UNC was really good that year but UK wasn't losing in the tournament. By the time March rolled around, all of those Kentucky freshmen had grown into one of the most dominant teams in recent memory. UNC was not one of the most dominant teams in recent memory.

Where in the title does it say anything about them needing to be the better team. Again you are missing the point of the argument.

With a healthy Marshall, that years team was the only one that could have won the title other than UK.

2012 UNC would not have been looked at as an all time great if they had won the title. That's the difference between them and the other teams mentioned.
