Is this due to them sucking or having to play so far away??

I think they suck

There is no doubt the big 10 is only good in their own minds.

Crazy that a coach like Beliema made three in a row at one point in that conference.

The Big 10 allowed 97 points in the past two Rose Bowls

Makes sense. They have sucked outside of Osu, and when osu gets in the playoff/championship game then some second tier team gets promoted to Rose. Blame the Rose bowl for clinging to their tradition of having to matchup a pac10 and big 10 instead of looking for the best matchup.

The biggest difference between the B1G and the SEC? Schembechler lost his first 8 Rose Bowls and is deified. Do you think Vince Dooley, Johnny Majors or the Bear would have ever even gotten the chance to lose their first 8 Sugar Bowls?

They sucked in the 70's and 80's too, brief resite in the 90's but THAT was the aberration.

And scored 0 in the last 2 playoff games.

The've lost 11 of them in that time. Over half of them come from Lloyd Carr and Bret Bielema.

But the B1G won 7 of the 8 right before that. It's cyclical.

From 2000-present the B1G has faced perhaps literally the greatest Oregon and Stanford teams ever, as well as Pete Carroll's best USC teams.

And the B1G did not play in the Rose Bowl 4 times since 2000. One national playoff, two national championships, and one random Oklahoma invite.

Another interesting fact:

B1G has 2 Rose Bowl wins since 2000
The B12 has 3 Rose Bowl wins since 2000
Texas has 2 Rose Bowl wins since 2000

It's like 35 degrees in Happy Valley, PA right now. So you have a team that left a freezing environment and traveled across the country to sunny LA to play a team from the next suburb over from Pasadena. They end up losing on a last second FG yet you are going to say that they suck?

Makes sense.

Traveling to the West Coast to play a road game at the Rose Bowl is not easy folks.

Well they've lost to some really good teams. Every team they've lost to in a Rose Bowl since 2000 came into the game ranked into the top 10. Still, a 2-11 record is completely inexcusable.

There have been some bad matchups due to Ohio State being in the BCS NC game a few times. So it was the PAC 10 champ vs Big 10 runner up. I recall not long ago when Illinois went and was crushed by USC. And USC is the other reason. Really talented USC teams that inexplicably lost two games and didn't make the BCS NC game but were good enough to beat anyone and always excelled in big games.
