I know it's good but I don't exactly understand. Basically we have to make all these trades if we want to keep signing international players for the next couple of years. I think next year they are planning on making a couple big acquisitions.
But yeah, I don't get it.

I know we need the money, but they sure did just give up on last years 2nd round pick pretty damn quickly.

Explain the "money" part.

I dont know all the rules and someone else can explain it better than I.
But basically every team is given a pool of money for their international signings each year. If they go over that budget then they are restricted from giving a player more than $300,000 for the following two years.
The Braves budget was a little less than $2.5M this year and they spent $3.4M on the two international players they signed this morning. Since they were $900K over, without making any other moves they would be heavily restricted in the international market for the next two years. So they made 3 trades today to acquire bonus pool money totaling around $1.1M which puts them under budget and they will now be able to make a big push next year internationally as well.

Seems like we may spend an obscene amount next year. Talk that Maitan has number 1 overall prospect in baseball ability. Obviously he won't be ranked that highly as a 16 y/o with no production but I've seen multiple FV 70 grades on him. Would be huge obviously if we could reel him in.
Anyone see Heyman mention a possible Kimbrel return in the winter? Seems like a strange fit.

How the hell did the dodgers sign that Cuban pitcher for 15 million?

Here is a decent link explaining things:
Bonus pool rules
Basically, you can spend past your pool during a single year, you just wind up not being able to spend more than 300k in the next two years (and pay 100% penalties on the money you spend over your pool I believe). So basically the Dodgers signed who the hell they wanted this year, but won't be able to get any major international free agents next year.
Another reason the Braves are expected to go all out next year is the typical gigantic spenders in the international signings (Dodgers, Red Sox, and Yankees) won't be able to go after any major prospects. The Dbacks, Angels and Rays also won't be able to either due to signings last year. From what I've seen the Cubs, Giants, Blue Jays, Royals and I think the Phillies all blew past their bonus pools yesterday and won't be able to go after any major international players next year.
So basically 9-10 teams won't even be able to compete in next years class (and those teams are the ones who typically spend big money in the pools). That leaves the Braves sitting pretty to swoop in and go nuts next year since we cleared the books with these trades yesterday.

How much is reserved for interpreters for our 2020 team?
Posted on 7/3/15 at 10:13 am to flyAU
Perhaps we'll need to hire a new on the field position.

Most players in the minor are bi-lingual when it comes to baseball. They'll figure it out.

Miller, Wood, Julio, Wisler, and Manny looks like it's going to be a pretty nice rotation next year. Particularly if Julio can get back on track and get out of his weird funk on the road.
They should be solid at 5 of the 8 positions too, and can either resign some of the guys in those three spots or find similar serviceable vets.
The big key will be rebuilding the bullpen.

Talk that they are going to trade for a controllable catcher. My guess is Folty and Bethancourt headline any package. Maybe Sims/Hursh included as well. Julio, Peraza and Maybin seem like offseason trade chips for a power hitting 3B/LF.
I think CJ, Grilli, J. Johnson are all dealt before the deadline in salary relief/lottery ticket deals although we've seen Hart and Co. be very creative so who knows how exactly they go with these vets this month.
That leaves you going in to next year with
C: Controllable catcher you trade for (Lucroy seems like option A although not sure Brewers are willing to move him)
1B: Freeman
2B: Peterson
3B: Trade/FA (Seems like this will have to come from a trade unless they settle for someone like Freese)
SS: Simmons
LF: Trade/FA (JUp, Gordon and Cespedes are best FA available here)
CF: Mallex Smith (Perez until he's ready?)
RF: Markakis
Rotation
Miller
Wood
Wisler
Banuelos
FA Signing/Trade (I guess this could be Folty or Teheran but I am guessing both will be traded based on how Bowman has talked about them)
And then you have plenty of arms for the pen plus FA to mix and match. Heyman talked about the FO possibly wanting to get Kimbrel back as well. Withrow, Simmons, Vizcaino all look like good SU arms.

The way Uribe has been hitting as a Brave it looks like it may just make more sense to resign him. Dude has had an OPS over .800 and played plus defense for us. He'd certainly be much better than an option like Freese.
The problem with finding controllable C and 3B is finding one in general, beyond the entire trading aspect. Particularly catcher, not really any good major league catcher prospects for the most part that aren't already starting for their teams.
Maybe we could trade for the Blue Jays #1 pick from 2014 Max Pentecost, as they need pitching and are in the hunt. I kinda like the Dodgers Austin Barnes, who is an interesting fringy prospect. The Brewers don't seem to be willing to trade Lucroy, and he'd cost a ton even if they did.
I didn't realize Gordon's option was a player one, he would be an interesting option for LF, as would Cespedes. My main concern with both would be cost and years. Both will be in there 30s when signing, and we've had very bad luck with hitters going into their 30s lately. Particularly since neither player are great contact hitters, and will likely not age well with the bat.
On a side note, I really hope we don't try to bring Kimbrel back. His contract makes zero sense for a team with our budget. Not to mention he's been worse than Grilli this year in an extreme pitchers park.

Agreed. He had a line of:
.303/.361/.514 .875
coming into tonight as a Brave. Add another homer and he's probably even closer to .900 OPS. Given that his current contract is for 6.5 mil and he's 36, it should be fairly easy to sign him to a 2 year deal fairly cheaply.

would be foolish to trade any of these pieces, imo.
