I don't know, national championships, games against highly ranked teams, the playoffs, having 4 or 5 strong power conferences, the adoption of 9 conference games across the board

NC's don't have anything to do with rivalries first off. Neither do games against highly ranked teams.

If you are saying consolidate conferences, then I am not sure what to tell you because you will in fact inherit some subpar teams which goes against the highly ranked opponents piece.

I think your only real argument is the 9 conference game setup. Is that the underlying premise for this thread?

Rivarly week is pretty much the largest week of the year in the regular season for many reasons and if you made that week into a ton of A&M vs Syracuse etc. it would matter a ton to the entire football world.

What do these have to do with rivalries?

Nothing. Just that, in my opinion, play just as big a role, if not bigger, than rivalry games in keeping college football interesting

That has nothing to do with it. The notion that you should think about other schools when making your own decisions is beyond idiotic for so many reasons

What the frick are you talking about? Oh I get it. This is a look at me I'm smart because I think rivalries are dumb thread.

What does somebody from the West coast know about growing up in SEC country where everybody at your high school comes from a Miss State, Ole Miss, or LSU family? Open your mind and understand that neutral site games, playoffs, and making as much money as possible isn't what's most important to fans.

The argument doesnt even need to be that the SEC is going to shite, just that if Alabama, or any other school, is presented with an opportunity where they can put themselves in a better situation than they are already in, but they have to stop playing their rival for whatever reason. I think it would be dumb to choose that one game over what's better for the program
Ok I think I know what you're getting at. I think Alabama is ready for the NFL too. When the time comes to make the jump, I'll be all for it. Screw Auburn!

this has nothing to do with that, just that college fooball should promote P5 schools playing one another OOC and should promote legit strength for each one

for the one hundredth time, I don't think rivalries are dumb. I think the idea that they are the end all be all is

Man i am not sure what to tell you. I am not trying to sound like a smartass, but I feel bad for people that don't have a great rivalry to enjoy. Rivalries are exactly what make sports a great thing. Winning a NC was an amazing experience, but as I know, my team can suck a year or two later and in those duldrums, you have that hated rival coming into town who you can get excited about because you never know what may happen because its a rivalry.

ETA: do you not enjoy the rivalry with the Giants?

Why? Because someone likes college football for a different reason than you?

Right and if it ever becomes so important that Ole Miss is unwilling to play LSU and Miss State, count me out. This will never happen because it would create riots.

sure. Like ive said so many times in this thread. I think rivalris are fun and i dont think they are stupid. But in this context, id rather win the division or the WS than win the season series against them

I wish Purdue would tell ND to shove it. ND only kept Purdue because they are easier to beat than MSU and UM.

Purdue is on our schedule twice in the next ten years, dumbass.
