I thought Baylor had rivalries with TCU and SMU the other religious schools in Texas that play football.

Notre Dame has ended rivalries with Michigan State and Michigan. They still play USC, Purdue, and Navy so they have kept some of their rivalry games.

I wish Purdue would tell ND to shove it. ND only kept Purdue because they are easier to beat than MSU and UM.

You'd think so, but that's not really the case.

Actually, having lived in Waco, I can tell you they hate A&M more than anyone. Which is kind of random

Baylor would literally root for ISIS before a&m. It's sad

They are a curious case

Even curiouser than us. And that is really saying something

It's a shame that realignment killed so many great rivalries.

Penn State, Pitt, and WVU should all play each other every season.

Not really. Those two are good right now, but it will always be Texas and A&M competing for being the top Texas team. Even when Baylor/TCU are good, nobody cares (See last year).

They might be forging a rivalry with TCU right now. But none of those programs have been consistently good enough or play often enough to have a true rivalry

There are far more important things in CFB (i.e. national championships), but you better believe they are important for schools with true rivalries.

Wisconsin and Minnesota have the nation's longest running rivalry and there is sheer hatred between the two schools.

You get a lot of interaction between the two states. Many Wisconsin towns are closer to Minneapolis than they are to Madison/Milwaukee. On the other hand, larger cities in Minnesota (i.e. Rochester) send quite a few HS students to both UW-Madison and the "U." Along that same spectrum, there are plenty of Minneapolis transplants who attend UW-Madison for college (and vice versa). A lot of the crossover between the two states in academia stems from reciprocity. Things will get interesting, though, following Governor Walker's UW System budget proposals.

Gopher fans like to point out the fact that Wisconsin fans seem to think football was "invented" when Barry Alvarez became coach and choose to ignore the past. Somewhat similarly, Minnesota fans like to tout their national championships like it means something to them - reality is, just about all of them have no conscience/were not yet born when those titles were won.

In any case, there are some Wisconsin fans that don't have quite the disdain for Minnesota as they do us due to our sheer dominance over the Gophers on the gridiron (11 straight wins, 18 wins in last 20 meetings) and hardwood (we have gone to 17 straight NCAA Tournament and back-to-back Final Fours).

I've had great times visiting the "U," and it is a solid academic institution, but I despise anything Minnesota Gophers athletics. F them.

Assuming you can't really get to physically hear some of the dislike between the two fan bases, I'd recommend checking out GopherHole and Buckyville. Those are two forums with fans that truly, truly dislike one another.

It is very much important.

Our "cold war" will always be with the big 12 Texas schools as a whole and whichever is the best one on an individual level. Right now, its Baylor and tcu. If it's texas, then it will be texas. If it's tech, then it will be tech

I'm not questioning how much they mean to those schools, I'm more bringing this up because I've seen it posted on here frequently that people wouldn't enjoy their football season at all without rivalries. Or that if you don't have one, you somehow can't enjoy football season as much as other can. And that's idiotic

Yes they are important. Army / navy is not important???? Isco/uvula is not important???? College football is probably the number two sport in America. I watch all the rivalries no matter the record. No way fla should have beaten Uganda last year. But they put a huge dent in u has season. Think about it.

Today's game with the playoff is plenty cash fine and intriguing without them. It just feels like someone took the Tobasco off the table.

The only schools that don't care about rivalries are the teams that truly don't have any.

You're talking to an Aggie who claims to have no rivals.. and is asking if they're even important to other schools and fans. Don't bother trying to reason.
