Old rules were perfectly fine, and that would have Anaheim and Los Angeles in the WS starting tomorrow night.

Dodgers aren't the #1 team in the NL.

To me it's crazy that the wild card winner will likely be already down 0-2 in the next series before their ace is on the mound.

Isn't HFA enough?

Starting pitching is obviously important, but not near enough to where you can say a team will likely be down 0-2 without their ace. All playoff games and series in baseball are close to coin flips.

At first I didn't care for it, but it has really grown on me. It makes winning your division incredibly important and I like things that favor the regular season. This is especially important in baseball which has such a freaking marathon of a regular season.

IMO it is so, so much better than basketball and hockey playoff structure which I think let too many teams in and devalues the regular season.

The "win your division" thing is overrated. There used to be imbalanced numbers of teams, and often times one divisions number 2 was as good or better than another division winner. And in some years the 2nd wildcard will have like 6 losses or more than the 1st wildcard team. In that scenario they don't deserve a shot. In fact, I would make the rule that you have to be within 3games of the number 1 wildcard or there is no 2nd wid card.

It's not really a true baseball playoff series.

It's more like a "play-in" game.

As far as I'm concerned, it's not really the playoffs.

I agree. This playoff setup is crap.
The entire 162 game season is made up of 3 or 4 game series.

Then in the playoffs it becomes a 1 game contest.
Total crap. But what did we expect from Bud Selig. The guy makes Roger Goodell look smart.

I like the idea with a 3-game series with the #1 seed hosting each game. That would be very advantageous for the 1st wildcard, yet still punish them for not winning the division.

Of course the premise of having one game to save your season after playing 162 is complete BS. Playoffs, in any sport, aren't designed to be the most fair way to crown a champion though. They're designed to generate excitement and get TV ratings and bring in as much $ as possible. These two wild card games are brilliant in that regard.

You're an idiot. It is brilliant. It does exactly what it was meant to do: create more excitement for end of season runs at the division title. It effectively expands the playoffs into early September.

I kind of like it. Makes winning the division valuable and it sure is exciting. A three game series in baseball really is almost as much of a crapshoot anyway.
