Agreed. If they are going to keep the play-in WC it should be 3 games. This 1 game do or die doesn't make any sense.

I love it. First off, win your division or STFU. They play 162 games, we know who the best teams are. If you backdoor in via the wild card, that means it's not you. You don't get to complain. Secondly, a one-game play-in game means divisional titles matter more. The MLB contracted the playoffs by expanding them. More teams get in, but they restored the value to winning the pennant.
Finally, it's fun. I'm a big fan of fun.

I just don't think a 1 game playoff makes any sense given the way baseball is currently structured. You have this 162 game gauntlet and then a 1gm playoff at the end of the year? Just doesn't seem like it fits.
I don't think changing it from a 1gm play-in to a 3gm series would have any noticeable impact on any of the other teams that have already "qualified". This would also make much more sense given the structure of baseball.
