Was Pete Carroll as hated as it seemed in the media when he was the coach there? I had the impression he was run out of town after 3 seasons because he wasn't liked.

He takes them to the playoffs all three years and gets fired after losing to the Jags? Had to be more to why he was fired, don't you think?

I find it funny that the last coach in New England was Carroll and no one is doing a story on it.

ETA: Carroll drafted Kevin Faulk in his last draft class(2nd round) before Damien Woody and Andy Katzenmoyer. In Belichick's first draft class, he drafts JR Redmond and 2 offensive tackles before drafting Brady.

They were talking about it yesterday on SVP I think.

Bruschi said he developed more under Carroll than any other coach he played for

Espnboston has covered it a lot. But more about the relationship between Kraft and Carroll or Carroll and Belicheck than him and the media

Kraft wanted Belicheck for a while so Carrroll didn't stand a chance from what I've read (I was like 5 at the time )

I must have missed that.

Parcells drafted him in 96. He got Terry Glen and Lawyer Milloy in the class too

He wasn't hated but remember what times were like in Boston a the time: Reggie Lewis had just died and the Celtics were horrendous, the Red Sox just lost Clemens, hadn't got Pedro yet and still had no relief in the near future, Ray Bourque and the Bruins were headed nowhere but an early playoff exit and then there were the Patriots:
Supposed to be a Boston fans best chance: We had Parcells, we had a #1 pick QB, we had the "law firm" in the secondary (Milloy and Ty Law) and had just been in a super bowl and were mildly competitive.
Carroll comes along with his 49er pedigree and comes into Boston, the toughest, least grateful sports town in the US. And they get worse each year.
That 7-6 loss to the Steelers in the playoffs was so frustrating b/c they had like 3 chances late to win that thing and didn't. We knew Carroll wasn't a bad guy, but I know I personally wanted a change.
It wasn't personal, they just got worse each year and Grier wasn't helping him out any being GM. Kraft had to go another direction. And Belichick became available.

I've enjoyed watching them ever since Faulk. I have no connection to them though.

That and Brady is the best in the league.

He wasn't hated, but his style of coaching and interaction with the media also didn't play very well with said media. He very much is a west coast personality, and as you'd expect, it doesn't go over well in Boston.

Kraft wanted Belichick, but couldn't get him after the bad ending with Parcells. Carroll kind of acted like a placeholder of sorts.

Bahaha. If you could dig up that quote where I backed Wildcat by saying I remember him commenting on the Patriots threads before he was even a member you should, I really looked like an arse.

Sometimes you get it wrong I'm always willing to admit that.
