The Arizona Department of Revenue filed a tax lien notice against IceArizona Hockey LLC, the company that owns the Coyotes, for over $1.3 million in unpaid state and city taxes last Friday. The Coyotes owe $250,000 of those unpaid taxes to Glendale, per The Athletic, and the rest to Arizona.
The Coyotes response:

quote:
“We have already launched an investigation to determine how this could have happened and initial indications are that it appears to be the result of an unfortunate human error,” the Coyotes statement read. “Regardless, we deeply regret the inconvenience this has caused. We will make sure that by tomorrow morning, the Arizona Coyotes are current on all of our bills and owe no state or local taxes whatsoever. And we will take immediate steps to ensure that nothing like this can ever possibly happen again.”

Did they miss the payment yesterday? NHL Net reported they were making the payment and no issues.

They should move to New Orleans. The mayor knows all about not paying taxes and could really give them some pointers on how to do business with the city and get their fair share.

What will you do with Hartford’s AHL team?
Posted on 12/9/21 at 2:37 pm to Pedro
Move it to Canada where hockey is played.

Maybe John Spano's running that team, instead of submitting a payment for $250k he sends a check for $2.50.

NO with a NHL team, that would be funny.

There’s likely more to this than incompetence as the Coyotes are struggling with Glendale who kicked them out after this year. (Which many don’t believe will happen in the end.)
There was likely some leverage/negotiating reasoning behind not paying some of the items. (Again, looking towards future usage beyond this year.)
However it should have never gotten to the point a tax lien had to be put on the team. This ownership knows how to run businesses, but they’re absolutely incompetent when it comes to running a sports business on the business and PR side.
And it’s not about money. The owner spent $25 on Real Estate in Phoenix in the last year. He has $1.4m in his pocket.
They need to get their shite together because each thing is more embarrassing than the next.

quote:Did this really require “launching an investigation”? Sounds like a 15 minute call with the president and the AP department would suffice.
We have already launched an investigation to determine how this could have happened
