But Andre Ware played for Houston and like Halliday led the nation in passing yards - same with Flutie for Boston College (which wasn't some national power) -

Ware didn't play a single game on national television...and Flutie had basically the Miami game on national TV.

Same with Ty Detmer - it was yards and TDs that he led the nation and clinched it playing a WAC schedule.

Right now Halliday is leading the nation in yards and TDs - by far.

Flutie won the Heisman on one play.

I'm not arguing he was undeserving, but the total passing yards were sort of ancillary. Take away that play and he doesn't win it.

Yeah... but he's done. Done done.

I think it should be Dak right now. Unfortunately, I think 2/3 of the voters are going to go Mariota because they think the SEC gets enough stuff already.

A limping Prescott hurled over 330 yards through the air including a 64 yard strike which would prove to be the game winning touchdown.

Dak.

Connor Halliday from Wazzu is leading the nation in passing, fyi...FWIW.

so you think the heisman trophy frontrunner is a guy who is not gonna play another snap all year?

Gordon isn't best RB in his conference and didn't lead conference in rushing (have not seen new from yesterday)

Tevin Coleman has 1,300 yards (8.0 yards/carry) to Melvin Gordon's 1,296 (7.5 yards/carry).

What separates the two is the touchdown discrepancy. Gordon currently has 19 total touchdowns (18 rush, 1 receiving) to Coleman's 11 total touchdowns.

It probably does not help Coleman's cause that Indiana is 3-5 and Wisconsin is 6-2, either.

Though this is not in the mind of anyone, nor should it be, I think it is worth noting that Coleman gets much more space to operate. Indiana has a wide open offense. Despite what Andersen wants to bring to Wisconsin, Gordon has still been running behind a behemoth offensive line and pro-style sets, especially now that Joel Stave is back under center.

Despite what their rushing totals say, I doubt there are many people outside of the Indiana faithful that would consider Coleman a better back than Gordon.

Both are damn good, though.

Melvin Gordon is wrecking it. 2K rushing yards incoming and 19 total touchdowns.

I like Gordon. I just don't think people realize that the entire receiving core is new at Oregon, the Oline is/has been a mash unit, and the RB is a true frosh.

Dak because of the SEC.Mariotta is close.I just don't see a RB winning it for a while.

The duel threat QB's are the best athletes now.

eta: Tebow won in 2008 when they lost to Ole Miss and he gave the speech they bronzed. The won the NC that year.

While you're there discounting Coleman due to offense they run

Remember IU throws the ball a lot more than Wisconsin. IU is on a 4th string QB. You also completely dismiss that Coleman leads the B1G yds from scrimmage also.

So I think if people took time to look at Coleman and not that he is from IU he is better than Abdullah who is also better than Gordon.

I wish it could go to Gordon or Abdullah, but it's a QB award now.

If it wasn't for his off-the-field stuff it would be Winston in a landslide again. No one can do the stuff he can.

And neither one of them are better than Coleman, IMO.

I think Marcus Mariota is the most deserving this year though.
