Bet money.

I watch World Cup soccer. I never watch EPL and the ads are a big reason why.

I'm all for making money, but there is a limit. It's trashy. It makes the product look minor league. I have enough goddamn ads in my life. I don't need it front and center on an O6 jersey

I won't stop watching more than likely (unless they go back to that abortion that was the redzone ad). But I will never buy another jersey.

I won't pay to advertise for you.

Sports leagues kill me. One of the biggest words we hear in gaining fans is branding. Branding this, rebranding that. Well, some of these teams have a flawless brand. A classic look. If you frick that up, you ruin a brand. Coca-Cola is Coca-Cola because it has a timeless look recognized all over the world. They wouldn't dream of plastering a Taco Bell logo front and center on their can, because their brand means something. They're advertising themselves.

So if the companies offering you money wouldn't do it, why would you?

This was inevitable since we are talking about businesses creating new revenue streams that already exist in other sports and around the world.

soccers isn't adding commercials

Football aren't adding full jersey ads

This. Although the real thing won't look nearly as extreme as the OP. But I still won't buy a jersey with ads on them

I agree with the sentiment overall but...

It's an honor unless your an entitled douche like Blake Wheeler and refuse to sign for the team that drafted you...

Go frick yourself Blake.

You can laugh, but it's branding. I have a favorite team. I love supporting that team and their brand. Joining in fan participatory events. I don't want to high five a guy because we have matching Starbucks logos.

I just think it's ridiculous to not watch any club soccer just because they have a corporate logo on their jersey. It's something that literally has zero effect on the game.

BTW, all of your favorite teams still have a very noticeable logo of the clothes manufacturer on every article of clothing. I really don't see the difference.

The Nike logo on Alabama's football uniform is bigger than any Alabama logo on the uniform.

Because there's like maybe 1 logo on all of Alabama's uniform

He says as he pays to advertise for the team when he buys team memorabilia.

If they do it like the CFL it would be alright.

The small adds aren't that bad. A large front and centre one would be awful though

That is how they will do it, just like the NFL does.

I HATE commercials. So between the ads on the jerseys, side & backboard, jumbotons, and the actual ice, there shouldn't be any commercial right?

Then they need to get rid of commercials. For NFL just go ahead and paint ads on the white part of the field just off the playing surface and cut out the fricking commercials. Damn games lasting 4-5 hours is getting stupid

The problem is, this is America. The people making the money won't give up commercials regardless of how much on field advertising there is.

Good luck convincing Fox, CBS and NBC to drop the ad revenue from Super Bowl commercials.

FWIW, I hate the idea of ads on the jerseys - period. I don't mind commercials during the period because it gives me the chance to hit the head or browse the web for a minute or so and not miss game action. But the NHL doesn't even come close to the amount of commercials to what MLB, NHL and the NBA have so it's not a real issue. The ads will come. Sadface.

Yep, but people might as well get prepared, in a few short years the NHL, NBA, NFL will have ads on jerseys.

I'm not saying it won't happen, but I feel like people said the exact same thing just a few short years ago.

Came across this picture of from the 3 point contest this past season. The Foot Locker ad is small but it looks terrible.
