Adidas wins NHL Jersey contract starting in '16; Ads likely coming

NHL fans and players themselves begging the NHL to not put ads on the jerseys.
That Kings Jersey is actually not bad, rest are awful.

I thought the reason that soccer puts ads on the jerseys is because there are no breaks for commercials during the game. So they they make money off of the jersey ads instead of commercial ads.
But for other sports to do this it makes it nothing but a money grab.

Yep, but people might as well get prepared, in a few short years the NHL, NBA, NFL will have ads on jerseys. It's inevitable.
We'll all hate it and bitch, but in the end, it's hundreds of million of dollars extra.
Silver has already confirmed it for the NBA last year saying within 5 years. The NFL will likely go full soccer style with massive dead center ads that will bring in 150+ million deals.
Qatar paid out 200 million for 5 years. The big NFL teams will be able to get similar.

This was inevitable since we are talking about businesses creating new revenue streams that already exist in other sports and around the world.

European hockey leagues have a ton of ads on their jerseys, pants, helmets, socks, and even on the ice.

nah Barca is a world wide brand and one of the biggest clubs in the world with more fans than any NFL team
that would also mean each NFL would sign its own sponsorship deals chaining the NFL Nike jersey.
With soccer each team picks its own jersey maker as well.

Even with ads they won't look like that. European teams with sponsorships still have the club crest as the center point of the jersey, unlike football.
