2 things stick out:

1) The athleticism of today's NBA players is just silly compared to the 80's NBA. I don't know if McHale, Parrish and Walton could make it in the NBA today.

2) The physicality of this game would have every NBA player today dragging their bleeding vaginas all over the court. The picks are just brutal. The hand checking and bumping are like watching WWE.

Also, '86 Jordan and 90's Jordan were a whole different animal.

Did you know that the Bulls finished 22 games under .500 that season? 9 games worse than the 7 seed in the Eastern Conference.

People act like just recently is the first time there's been shitty teams in the postseason. It's always been that way.

Walton was pretty much finished by 86, but Blazers Walton was a GOAT.

Ehh that is sort of the point behind people wanting to get rid of the conferences.

You don't do it if the East is worse for like 5 years, but this has been like a 20+ years thing.

Watching 80's era NBA basketball is like watching your dad play in a church league. Embarrassing.

This is a pretty complicated thing. I think bigs struggle to develop because of the pace of the game at the lower level. Marc Gasol, a true big, was a liability for his high school team at one point.

In an age where winning is everything at all levels, coaches have no incentive to develop the game of a big man. Same goes for pro style QBs in football.

There's nothing complicated about it at all. Teams just aren't stuck on this decades old notion that your big has to have a traditional post game to be an integral part of a team.

Unless a guy is an absolutely elite post player it just isn't worth it with the way defenses are allowed to play now.

Well, they'll never get rid of conference. And I don't think they should.

Silver has already started talking about getting rid of them for the playoffs already

Dumbest idea ever. Win your division get a 1,2, or 3 seed. I think you should be rewarded.

Home court should be total record, despite seed.

Like it is now.

Where do you come up with this shite sometimes?

quote:

From the start, it was clear Gasol played the game at a higher level than most high school kids, with a selflessness that instantly endeared him to teammates. He could easily dominate the game but had no burning need to do so.

Jason Peters, Lausanne's head coach at the time, clearly recalled his first impression.

"I immediately thought we were going to win more basketball games," he said.

quote:

Before Gasol's first season, the coaches held an informal scrimmage and watched their new center go to work.

"He was passing, and he was directing traffic," Peters said. "And his shot was—he was just a pure shooter."

quote:

Soon enough, the Lausanne boys were drawing a standing-room-only crowd to the intimate Norfleet Gym. The coaches busily rearranged the nonleague schedule to play the bigger schools.

"Everybody wanted to see him play," Peters said. "He was a Larry Bird, skill-wise. He had the hands. He had the shot."

In his two years at Lausanne, Gasol averaged 26 points, 10 rebounds and six to eight assists, his coaches said. He could have easily gone for 30 points and 20 rebounds a night, if needed. But it wasn't needed, and it wasn't Gasol's style.

He was a FC Barcelona product that went to one of the smallest private schools in Memphis. Of course he started.
