L.A. might be the only major metro city in America that is a college town.

it's not a college town, its a lakers/dodgers town. we're also the #1 frontrunners town, so when USC football or UCLA basketball are good, they draw also.

the rams sucked last year, and they were boring. that's why the coliseum was empty yesterday. if the team starts winning, the fans will show up again.

the coliseum was filled on saturday because USC football is trending way up.

edit- LA is unique from other major metro's in that we have not just one, but 2 big time college programs. NYC and Chicago have zero. So we while we aren't a college town, we definitely enjoy college sports more than almost any other big city.

There is a reason the NFL didn't have teams in LA for years, and now they have 2. This shouldn't be a surprise.

Fox Mulder was right; the NFL has forced football down our throats...and the quality of play, especially from the marquee position, has been horrible the past few years.

They give us a shitty product, on a constant news cycle, and couple that with incompetent leadership and corrupt controversies. Its not surprising that the fans have bucked back at this crap they give us.

Chicago's Big Ten Team and Rutgers disagree.

If I'm Chargers ownership, I'm going, "did we sign those papers in ink?"

Speak for yourself and your parody account. The majority of fans have given up because the NFL catered to people like you with low brow interests and lower IQs.

Who rarely pay for football anyway.

Why did the 49ers not build their stadium in SF like Candlestick Park?

Candlestick Park is in South San Francisco. It's not really that close to anything else in the city. San Jose has a higher population than San Francisco and is much closer to Silicon Valley firms. I disagree that the site is the problem. I'd also guess that a lot of those seats were actually sold. (PSLs there are crazy.) It was just abnormally hot for San Jose/santa Clara Sunday.

NFL fans in general look like trash and are probably poor.
They have to ration out which games they can go to.

Sunday in SF they took off.

No doubt the seats were sold there is more money in that area than anywhere else in the world. Those millionaires ain't going sit in the hot sun to watch a bad team.

49ers messed up when they built the new stadium so far away from San Francisco. Nobody wants to drive that far away to see a game especially when they suck.

^^this
The new SF stadium is very corporate and bleh - even if they packed it I don't think it could get very loud.
the forty-whiners sucking is good for cheap tickets though, last year I took the family to the saints game and we bought nice seats off of stubhub the day of the game for $45 each
