It's definitely worth the trip. We lucked out with the weather. That day it was in the Mid 80's. When we arrived 2 days earlier it was in the upper 50's.

Does the OP think the Sunday pin placements for the Open are already set?

Or that Sunday pin placements across the 18 holes are tougher than the first 3 rounds?

Not true in either case.

The USGA generally has the pin positions for each green graded in difficulty as 1 through 4, and they strive to have close to the same number of 1, 2, 3, and 4 positions for each round.

Of course they're not already set. Erin Hills was doing a mock of what they think they could be based on discussions with the USGA.

Also, I know it's not the 18 toughest pins. Never in my post did I say they were. I just said some of the pins I played could have been a bit more difficult if they wanted them to be.

Thanks for trying to give me a lesson, though. I appreciate your concern.

I hope they clear some areas for the fans to watch.

Oakmont is terrific. Taking down a bunch of trees really did wonders for that course.

But I think Shinnecock Hills is the very best of them all, despite the issues in '04.

I'm looking into getting my dad a trip out here. I'm not into golf enough to go with. Would he have fun alone, or should I try to see if I can send him with a friend (not super realistic)?

I wouldn't send him alone. Even though he can walk and talk with a caddie and everyone in the club/lodge are really friendly, it's much better going on trips like that with someone else.

One thing I forgot to add earlier is that the cart girls are smoking hot for middle of no where Wisconsin.

Well shite. Thanks for the reply. A workaholic can be light on friends.

Do you know if they are closing on Sept 1, 2016 or Sept 30, 2016?

And how far in advance can you make a tee time? Going to play there next year en route to LSU/Wisconsin game.

He didn't give an exact date for closing the course in 2016, but said it would be a month early. They usually close in mid October, so you should be good for the LSU game. You'll have to call and ask though.

They open up tee times a month or so before the season starts and put a notice on their site. If you're staying on property, they'll let you book further in advance(they also block off tee times for onsite guests).

I don't get the fetish to turn the US Open into a North American version of the British Open.
