Vince Young was one of the greatest college football players of all time. The most deadly and effective combo of passing and running the college game ever saw. Amazed that he didn't at least have a mediocre pro career. I thought his floor was in the john kitna, jeff garcia range.

?????

Remember, VY went to a team with complete crap surrounding him and was ROY, made multiple pro bowls, and still has the highest winning % of any QB in Oilers/Titans history.

Was a better passer than you think: LINK

But, his coach never wanted him: LINK

So that coach worked against him, even if it meant losing games: LINK

I do think it was the greatest college football game of all time. It also had a great intro video.

NFL Network did an incredible piece on this game a while ago. Was pissed I didn't record it. You forget how many incredible plays happened in that game. Not only were there incredible players, but those players stepped up and made the plays throughout the entire game.

Thomas was sensational in that game.

It was an amazing game, and an epic performance by VY. I lost sleep for months after that one.

Negative, Ghostrider. His passing prowess was, and still is, vastly overrated.

Such a great result after weeks of ESPN proclaiming USC the greatest team ever.

not really, White was the goalline/short yardage back for the past 2 seasons. he already had 3 rushing TD's that game, one of them on a 4th and 1.

Yeah, we hadn't really stopped White at all that game. It was definitely the right call. Game is over if White gets a yard.

It was the last game he ever called for ABC. This was the best college football game I have ever watched. All summer, it seemed like everyone knew this title game was coming if Texas could win at Ohio State in their second game. When they did, the hype for this game went through the roof. ESPN idiotically running that series comparing 2005 USC to the best college teams of all time was not their smartest idea.

Considering the stakes, magnitude, and location (Rose Bowl, basically a USC home game), I think Vince Young's performance in this game was the best performance by an athlete in a single game in any team sport at least of my lifetime (born 1989). This would be the equivalent of LeBron dropping 70 in a Game 7 on the road to win the NBA Finals on a buzzer beater. Texas needed every last yard that Young accounted for to win this game.
