1210am: The Real Issue

From the other thread, I know there's much grief about the loss of WSKR The Score ... I'm certainly one of those... and some who believe that Jordy, Ott and Songy will not be missed.
But there's a greater evil that lurks here, that we all need to be aware of. I think this says much of it.

Regardless of what we might think of on-air personalities, the loss of community-driven radio is an insult to our personal liberties. And while I agree with much of that article, they missed the point about free market. If it truly was a free market, anyone in Baton Rouge could start up a radio station and broadcast sports all day. Given that Jordy et al PAID for their time means this such a station could operate at a profit if managed well. Unfortunately, it's NOT a free market... the gospel music format is financed by a non-taxable entity. Making for an unlevel playing field. In addition, non-profits get whatever low power station permits are available, while all the high power permits are gobbled up by large corporations. Some of this was put into place by Reagan, but moreso by Clinton and Obama. Presidential candidate Ron Paul has pointed out this hypocrisy on occasion. Maybe now we can see where the truth lies!

Great job in that cameo on The League. Nailed it.

I don't get the obsession with sports talk radio on this board fwiw. I think for people under the age of 40, message boards like TD have replaced talk radio as far as community function. Terrestrial radio is dying.

Loved you in Jurassic Park.

Uh, what? The church isn't running that gospel format on 1210, Clear Channel is.
I'm sure they're hoping to get some dollar-a-holler preachers or Colon Blow paid programming to buy up some hours like they do on 940 am in New Orleans.

Any truth to The Fly remake rumors?

I thought so as well. Great choice on the senior Ruxin.

Not necessarily, I loved listening to it while at work. It was nice to hear something fresh, whereas the national guys all pretty much have the same angle on the same 3 stories.
(Except for Songy that show was almost unlistenable)

I think as far as callin shows are concerned there is a lot of truth in that.
However I dont think forums have replaced or can replace the interviews on sports talk radio. Mike and Mike -- which is very popular no matter how much it is hated here -- has almost no callers and is ether host schtick or interviews.

This is a monumental understatement! Baton Rouge sports radio has been dying a slow death for years.
