WWYD: Buy another vehicle or Repair and save up

(What would you do)
Current vehicle is 2005 Trailblazer, has roughly 155k miles. Runs fine. No mechanical issues. However, some of the gauges have stopped working (most recently i think the fuel gauge has kicked the bucket)
I believe this has something to do with some electrical cluster behind my dash.
I'm in a pickle. Should I say time to move on and get another vehicle? Bite the bullet and get the car repaired (roughly $900)? OR Leave the gauges broken and ride til i die?
It's damn nice not having a car payment.

Does the need to have a new (or used) vehicle, with a note outweigh the problems you are experiencing with your current vehicle?

Reset the odometer after every complete fill up, and drive for a set number of miles before filling up again.
I wouldn't put $900 into it! Congrats on a paid off car

You will learn to adjust to broken gauges, so ride til it dies or another major problems comes. GL

Ride till you need a new car. Did you have a shop give you an estimate or are you going off what you suspect?
I drive all my vehicles until they become too much of a hassle. I wouldn't even notice broken gauges.

No real "need" aside from getting a more current model that may last a while longer. I know another vehicle us coming but I think I can hold off for now.
I had a shop give me that estimate. I think my vehicle is prob only worth $1000 or so

Did you look up how to repair yourself? There is a place that does this on eBay. I know that sounds sketchy but it had good reviews.
I wouldn't pay more than $500 into a vehicle worth that little.

But what if that gets him another 20k-30k miles ?

is the speedometer still working?
I wouldnt pay 500+ to fix the fuel gauge. Depending on how many miles you do weekly, maybe just top off every monday or a certain day of the week.

I'm not saying it's the best financial decision, I'm just saying for me personally. He could put 1k in it right now then less than 1k miles later, something else could break.

If it buys him 20-30k miles then sure. But it's a fuel gauge. No way I pay that much to know how much fuel I have. Just fill up often!

Nope. Speedometer hasn't worked for awhile. I've been going off my GPS to see my speed

Lots of videos on YouTube on how to remove the gauge cluster and companies where you can ship it for them to fix. Happened with my 03 Tahoe. Fill up your truck before you do it since you can still drive it with it removed. Remove the cluster, ship it off. Got mine back in about a week. Think it cost me around $125-150.

This is a very common repair on Chevy's. I sent mine to a guy off ebay in houston. Repaired gauge servos and replaced lights. This was three years ago and its still going good.

congrats on owning a Trailblazer with only a few electrical issues!

Kind of the same spot....wife drives 1997 bmw z3, about 160,000 miles. Some impatient driver crushed the front end and front left side while backing up....damage seems cosmetic, to the shell of the vehicle.
fear is it will be totaled and will get next to nothing and will turn around and have a note for another vehicle.
we have worked hard to keep her car in real good shape, recently re-painted, reupholstered interior, had just purchased new door panels...service record impeccable.
hate to have to deal with the result of another's impatientce
