Since I posted, I spoke with Noli Novak
who is 1 of 4 staff illustrators for the WSJ. Her drawings appear daily in the WSJ. She commissions these on the side. For a signed 3x5 she charges $600 a pop and takes 1 week to do. She snail-mails the original. She just needs a hi-res image. I asked if she did any larger pieces and she said she doesn't since a larger image would put more spacing between the dot/lines and you lose the effect of the Stipple technique. $600 is a bit stiff, but I think it would be extremely flattering to anyone who's a disciple of the WSJ. These illustrations are truly iconic. Great conversation piece, I'd say.... especially signed by the artist.
If I decide to get one done, I would definitely ask her to include the same pen she used for the drawing and frame it along with the drawing under glass.
