So two coworkers gave me the rundown of churning credit cards and how they both go about it, the effects on your credit, and most importantly the rewards you can get.

Who here churns, what are some of the tips and tricks of doing it, and what are some possible downfalls?

How often do yall get a new card?

Do yall spend the actual required amount for the startup bonus or fund it through some convoluted way to churn more quickly?

Waiting to get my chase sapphire reserve in to start.

Note: I am fiscally responsible and have no debt (besides mortgage) so this is not a downfall.

Not trying to be glib but just go to reddit.com/r/churning and start reading.

On Wednedays they have a thread called What Card Wednesday you can post in and get some rec's.

It depends on what you are looking for as to which card will be the best for you. Hotels / airfare / etc. The one thing you HAVE to do to make it worth it is pay your balance off in full.

Chase Sapphire Reserve is very good. The Ultimate Rewards points are great. You can also do the Chase Sapphire Preferred.

For some reason the scene from Independence Day came into my mind.

"I can fly; I'm a pilot."

Reddit for Churning

Great resource for churners.

I churned 2 cards last year. Looking to get the Chase Sapphire Reserve as my next one before I hit the Chase 5/24 limit. (Chase has a 5 card limit for 24 months; over 5 cards with any company and they will most likely deny you)

Yeah, just follow the link that this guy posted. Lot's of good info and you can ask questions.

I'm not a serious churner, but I do it some and have enjoyed some great benefits.

Have to apply in person by tomorrow to get the 100,000 bonus. It changes to 50,000 after. I think I'm pretty close on the 5/24. I'm going in today to apply I think. I have a few trips lined up for this year. Points could be pretty beneficial.

So y'all just get the points then cancel the credit cards once you've used them?

Yes, or downgrade. There's some strategy to it.

I'm not sure 2 in a year meets the threshold of "churning" but I'll allow it

On the same general topic -- do any of yall manufacture spend? Came up or heard of any of the more downlow ways to do it? If so, and you'd like to trade strategies, we can get an email going. Or if you have any closed groups, id love to join.

I used to. A lot of easy methods got murdered the last couple years. Still a few around, but I'm generating enough points through spend and applications I don't think I really need to manufacture. And as you mentioned, a lot went underground/stays more underground it seems and I don't have access to that sort of group myself.

Though, I could probably use some fixed points balances. I'm smooth sailing with airline miles.

My favorite were people buying from the Mint and then depositing at the local bank. I'm sure a lot of people buy gift cards which should be completely legal.

I do buy GCs strategically to make sure I hit my bonuses.

I got into it in 2013, the mint got shut down in 2012. I read a story about a guy realizing he had a problem when he was using a baby stroller to roll his coins down to the bank

The best and most famous story is the pudding story.

Thanks for all the resources guys. I probably wont do manufactured spending but I could see myself doing 3 to 4 cards per year depending if the system stays how it is. My CSR came in yesterday so I am pretty pumped.

I got into MS and churning when vanilla reloads and bluebirds were working. I still do gift cards to money order to bank/bill route but not as much. I mainly have a few cards that I use for day to day spend and then will periodically take advantage of great cc offers or plan for a trip.

I applied and got approved today. Probably waited too long because I have a trip starting next Friday and I'm not sure if the card will arrive in time. But still, I was a bit worried about 5/24 so I'm relieved I got the 100,000 bonus in time.
