Any recommendations for gps tracking systems? Have a new fleet of about 10 vehicles we want to equip. Thanks.

This is standard procedure in the service industry, knowing the locations of fleet vehicles without calling every driver is invaluable in dispatching pickup/delivery, or service. It has nothing to do with spying on employees.

If they (paid employees) leave because you want to know where they and your vehicle is, then they are NOT valuable employees.

It's a good thing both for the company and the driver. It makes them think before speeding or risky behavior.

We use fleetmatics for about 90 trucks

Managers get notifications when employees are speeding, iPhone app to track trucks, tied into fuel cards(if they use WEX card and truck isn't there charge gets declined)

If you tie it into cell phone you can get notified when they text or call while driving

We're pilot testing this.
People are pissed
But as of now, no disciplinary action to be taken as a result of something detected from it. They're still ironing out all the details with legal and HR.

Does anyone have an idea of costs for Verizon's fleet services?

We use spireon. 99% of the time it works like it should. Sometimes there are delays. Everyone at our company likes it. When drivers can't find their destination, they call in and ask where they are and why can't they find the place.

The thing we do that lessens the aggravation for the driver is to only call when they are headed in the wrong direction. Everyone needs to stop to get a drink, snack, or just take a piss every once in a while.
