Upside down on a vehicle that needs a new engine.

Typing on phone, so don't feel like throwing all the details in. Owe 15K on a vehicle worth 10K (yes dumb I know) that needs 6K for a new engine. Any options besides biting the bullet, putting the new engine in, and driving the damn thing until the end of time?

Is it worth 10k with the crap engine or assuming it's running?

What can you realistically get for it if you sold it right now?

Is 6k the cheapest you can get it repaired for?

Have you looked for a totaled one in a salvage yard that you could get the engine from?

I agree with this. Find one from a salvage yard that can document the milage. It'll last longer than a rebuilt motor and be cheaper then 6k. Should be anyway.

Update us on the sous vide pork shank disaster and I'll buy your beater for 5k

What is the vehicle? If it's a a pickup or a popular car, then you could easily find another engine from a wrecked car to drop into it.

What is the year, make, model?
And how many miles?
Road miles? Or stop and go type miles?
$6K seems rather high

Go buy another vehicle and let them repo the one you have now. You're not scared to make poor decisions, what's one more?

2012 Chevy Equinox. Found a motor with 19K miles, $4,500 installed. Going that route, and driving the fricking thing until it has 300,000 miles.
Evidently motors have a known oil consumption issue, with zero idiot lights on the dash to assist. Gonna have to actually check oil levels at every fill up, which nobody does. Don't lie and say you do.
