Got a b.s. in accounting and seven years of decent experience and can't land anything. I'm about to throw in the towel and become an electrician apprentice.

I feel your pain. Pay cuts have me poking around in the job market as well but there isn't much of anything out there. Sent some resumes out had one interview and that's it. They decided to hire from within.

Apply everywhere, and I mean EVERYWHERE. Send a resume halfway across the country just for the hell of it.

SFP told us that its not the job market that sucks but it's the fact that you just want to be poor and collect social security.

Are you willing to move?

So many people complain that they can't find a job, yet are unwilling to move.

I may have to, esp. since I have outside gentrifying investors willing to buy my house.

I hate it b/c Nashville is one hell of a city.

I'm doing menial work for Vanderbilt and they won't even look at me for accounting stuff (I did an interview and right off the bat I knew I wasn't going to get it.).

I'm trying to pass the CPA and I'm even contemplating volunteering (a supervisory role that seems pretty cool).

I apply for stuff but I'm sure I get filtered out as overqualified. I even know a guy that's a controller for a hotel and he's hesitant to hire me b/c he thinks I'm short term any way (I would've given him a year considering it's a clerk job).

What kind of money are you looking for?

No CPA?

What happened to your last job?

How long have you been looking?

1000+ accounting jobs around Washington, DC. Obviously, you're probably overqualified for many but still.

Even if there are a thousand jobs, it can get discouraging when you get turned down for 500 of them. Nonetheless, you only need to find 1 employer that likes what you got.

I'm good with $35,000/yr. just to get experience (GL, peachtree, etc.)

CPA is a b1tch to pass (for me). I've taken 3 sections (Far 61, Reg 53, Audit 65). I took time off (Saved enough $$$) after losing my job just so I could focus on the exam.

My employer eliminated my position. I've been looking since December.

Have you thought about using a recruiter? I've got friends that are recruiters in Nashville posting all kinds of accounting jobs all the time.

I did low level type of accounting, never GL or financial analysis. I pushed for it but older folks guarded their territory and weren't that forward thinking. The only reason I stayed so long was b/c of job security. Lord knows I tried looking for other jobs back then.

I'm with Robert Half right now and it's okay. They're in the same building with UBS and I keep praying they could swing me in that direction.

And I'm underqualified for all of them. Payroll and A/R are the classic you need experience in order to get the job catch-22 situation. I applied for some downtown AP Manager stuff but haven't heard back.

Tough spot, but you'll land something eventually. It may take you 5 or 6 months, honestly.

I was in a similar situation, laid off last year and I struggled several months getting rejection after rejection if anyone would even talk to me. Quite honestly contemplated my self worth at times. Thinking I didn't have any skills worth a frick to anyone.

6 months into my job search, I finally got a hit and everything fell into place and I probably hit the job search jackpot. So just hang out and be persistent, it'll happen.
