you didn't realize that until after you signed the dotted line ? hardly a trick

I said I bought mine and that's the lease they advertise on their tesla.com

As for the charge, it's free at the tesla charging station network they are building out, but otherwise at home it should run about 2 cents per mile. Alot better than my current vehicle.

Smart move by Tesla. No use in spending a ton of money acquiring real estate for showrooms when the places will eventually end up vacant once they go belly up. This way, all they have to do is pay off the lease and they are done.

re: Tesla making honest car dealers very angry
Tesla isn't fisker, they're not going bankrupt

1.They just had their first profitable quarter

2.They're shooting for 25% margins by year end

3.They have a second model coming

4.The model S i ordered won't be built for 3 months, that's the wait time to get one now!

5.They sold 4,700 model S last quarter in comparison mercedes sold only 3,000 of its flaghsip S Class, Bmw only 2,000 of it's 7 series and Audi sold under 2,000 of it's A8. The model S is spanking those in the top end segment

6.The model S was just rated the best car EVER by one of the biggest magazines in the automotive industry, they gave it damn near a perfect score and no car has ever done that. It does 0-60 in 4.2 seconds, that's near ferrari territory.

This isn't fisker, fisker had a car blow up in texas and that scared away the public and they just went bankrupt. Tesla is here to stay and they're going to change the auto industry. They're revolutionizing the dealership experience, the automotive service experience, the cost of car ownership experience, the driving experience, and most of all they're making it damn cool to have an electric car. Sadly though, they have some gigantic strides to get mass adoption:cheaper cars, more charge stations, but I think they will get there sometime in the next 10-20 years. This is the future.

How much does the charger cost to install and in terms of electric bills?

Someone posted the other day that a full battery charge would be about $10. Don't remember how exactly they calculated it, but they used math and stuff.

In terms of installation, you can charge with a regular old extension cord. You can get faster charging with a 240 volt outlet (similar to a dryer outlet) which can't be that expensive to install.

My question is can it be plugged in charging in the rain (i.e. if you don't house your car in the garage).

The materials for the outlet and cable run aren't that expensive, but depending on the installation it could get pretty expensive paying an electricial + helper for 1/2-1 day.

Hopefully he keeps a running thread going once he gets it. It is a hot topic and the Tesla S is one fine car.

I'd probably pull the trigger on one if the range were a little better. More than enough for 95+% of my driving but I'd be nervous on a day trip from NO to BR and back.

It's really easy math: in Louisiana we pay 9 or 10 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh), and the 300-mile battery in the model S has a capacity of 85kWh. So to charge it from totally dead to completely full takes 85 kilowatt-hours, and at 10 cents each it comes to $8.50.

What I don't get is....What legitimate need is there for a law that prevents a manufacture from directly selling his product?

This is what I've been trying to find. All I've come up with while reading is its to "protect the consumer", and lower prices by driving up competition between dealers. Smells like bullshite/outdated laws to me. Also, I believe 48/50 states have this law. What two states don't and how does it affect their car sales?

Nowadays with the internet, information is so readily available and distributed, you know that what you're going to pay for a car is more or less the same as what John Doe across the country paid. You don't need that "dealer protection" to tell you that.

I agree with this. Buying a car is always on the top for worst consumer experiences.

re: Tesla making honest car dealers very angry
The bottom line is consumers need to protect themselves. Research research research, but at the end of the day if tesla wants to sell THEIR cars for full price with no competition its ok bc its THEIR product.....nobody is forcing anybody to buy a tesla, they are being bought bc they are amazing vehicles and the price is justified. Chevrolet and Ford have to make up a price and basically trick you into buying it with $10K off MSRP commercials bc their product is just meh at best and its takes trickery to sell their stuff.

Sounds to me like a bunch of dealers are mad they tried to get in on the future of cars, making 25% per car and were shot down.

Exactly the same type of shite Auto manufacturers tried to pull when Ford was rolling out the model T. Almost makes we want to buy Tesla stock, almost

re: Tesla making honest car dealers very angry
I saw my first one on the road today. At least it is the first one I have noticed. I was white and very nice looking. At one point he did accelerate rather quickly from a stop light. Price, driving range, sustainability and service would be my worries. I would wait for the company to be around a couple more years before I considered. It has a lot of storage space for a car its size so I could see it being great for commuting to work, shopping and city driving.

I'd love to give one a test drive.

Please give us an update after you take delivery.

Yes...why not?

8.Best of all no oil changes, services are needed and when something goes wrong for $100 a tesla agent comes to my home to repair it. I don't have to go deal with a headache service department and get raped by high dealer costs
Bet they come immediately with all the parts needed to repair and the diagnostics

And you paid list price for it, didn't you? because of no competition.

Also, you couldn't trade in your old car....could you? Which means you got no tax credit for it....
