With the interest rate hike looming, is it a no brainer to sell COP and buy banks? Who is to say there won't be additional hikes either.

I feel like COP will be flat for a while, and banks will continue to have momentum.

With Trump's policies expected to be bank friendly, is it likely we will see banks resume to raising dividends every year?

I think you have missed the banks. It has only been a couple months, but many are up substantially. I just don't know that if they go up very much more they won't be overvalued. You may have missed the boat, be careful.

I'm in banks heavy for the next 2 years. The higher interest rates will legitimately help banks, but it's the deregulation that gets everyone all giddy..... But then the scamming will start and the collapse will happen. It always does. Some banks can't help themselves and they will bring the other banks down with them. I'll be out (hopefully) before the inevitable.
As for oil, it's a declining industry. They can keep subsidizing it and I'm sure they will...but technology can't be stopped. The strong oil companies will still thrive...those that have diversified into modern energy.
Look at AT&T. Its sole business 35 years ago is absolutely dead; not only that, they sold out of wireless 15 years ago...and they are still a giant (thanks to purchasing Cingular). Some oil companies will still be giants even after oil use is way diminished.

If you're still holding any type of oil stock in 2017, I strongly question your sanity

Chasing return is almost always a bad idea. You missed the boat. Why would you sell oil at its low and buy banks at its high?

Still holding BP and XOM, oh well.

Precisely, based upon what. Use of fossil fuels coming to an end? I'm quite sure the BPs and XOMs are going to shutter the doors and if they should the least of one's concerns will be which stocks to play.

I'm up 15% on COP, and oil is going to be trading sideways for the foreseeable future. Banks are not done running.

That's cute. By that token, you're 5 years late on someone like BAC.

Meh, I ain't even worried. I'll collect the dividends while it's low and sell when high. I've got years to wait it out. I need XOM at 100 and BP to 50 (might take awhile on BP), then I'm good to sell.
