Got the 50K offer from Chase Sapphire in the mail (I think it's available to anyone, so not a big deal that I got it in the mail ), and am trying to decide if I should drop my Barclays card with the new changes they have implemented (and my renewal is coming up for $95) and jump into the Chase world.

I got the Barclays originally for the 2X points on all spending, and I didn't want to get into cards that reward on categories.

Should I make the move? Never had a Chase card, and from my reading on here, perhaps you need two, the Sapphire and Freedom to max our your points collection?

What says the MT.

Yes, you should apply for the Chase card (Freedom, Sapphire, Ink, take your pick. I have all three). No, you shouldn't cancel your Arrival+. Just downgrade it. It's practically the only card Stateside that has chip and pin tech.

If I downgrade, do I keep my points till I can use them?

I've never downgraded a card with Barclaycard (still in my first year with the Arrival+) so I can't answer with certainty, but Chase has never given me trouble over points on a downgraded card. I suppose it's worth asking when you call, but you should be able to keep, and continue accruing, points as long as the account itself is open.

Yes.

And if you ever want another cash back card to use on non category bonus spend look towards Double Cash or now Fidelity Visa (formerly Amex).

Just call Barclay and tell them you want to cancel, they are the best company about waving annual fees.

That reminds me. If you are active duty military Barclay's will waive the fee. My brother has the Arrival+ with no fee because of this.

sorta.

I'm not too sure they are as good about paying their bills as I am so I don't encourage it any more.

I just got my little sister to get a Sapphire Preferred over Christmas. As I was explaining the game to her, I got very serious for a minute and said "and I swear to god, if I ever find out that you didn't pay off the entire balance at the end of the month, I'm never going to discuss credit cards with you again."

Hopefully it sank in

My wife instructed me that I shouldn't discuss credit cards with my brother anymore. Apparently his wife said he's not winning the credit card game.
