So let's assume that my macro economic stance with regard to Louisiana's current position is that the state is completely boned. I mean, that the goddamn plane is crashing into the mountain.

Via which financial instruments and positions can I profit from this?

Short Munis?

Good luck finding someone that will lend them, though.

Well, if LA bonds become junk bond status, there may be some high risk / high reward there.

You would see an increase in people shopping at dollar stores

You don't have to short Louisiana to make money - the mother of all SHTF's is coming after this next strong equity rally. Short anything and everything imo.

Well, short everything but gold. Gold will take off even more than it has currently.

Now I don't think it will be that bad as far as the US and/or the world is concerned. But for Louisiana, yeah, I think things are really going to suck. Hopefully Louisiana will do like Texas did during/after the last oil bust - diversify its economy. Since then, Texas has drawn in some tech companies like Dell and HP, and they have the third most hedge funds in the US, behind only the obvious New York and Connecticut. Oil still hurts them, but most of the pain is reserved to Houston and the shale fields now.

shite. We had gone so long keeping the trolls in their caves. All it took was a small pullback to bring them out again.

Are you calling me a troll, THF, or am I misunderstanding you? I know I don't post here often (and practically never on any other board), but I'm also not interested in most threads that aren't stocks/markets/oil related, hence the low post count.

And just saying - Texas is more diversified since the last oil bust, and gold has been going up out of people's fear (and due to negative interest rates elsewhere/delayed rate hikes here). I expect it to decline again once people calm down.

Unfortunately, Louisiana offers absolutely nothing to try to lure new industries here. Bad school, bad roads, bad government. Why would any industry want to come here unless you bribe them too like we did with the film industry.

LA gives away more tax credits, exemptions, and rebates to corps than it collects in Corp taxes. Why we subsidize film/tv and not biotech is proof of our pols' shortsightedness.

Don't really know you, but there are always a bunch of doomsday prophets that show up out of nowhere every time there is a market correction.

The all time King is Rivers, but my favorite was Baylor because he got some idiot teacher to run around defending him and the teacher actually liquidate his holdings because of it. He then missed a ~6000 point run in the market.

Gotcha. I'm neither a doomsday prophet nor a goldbug, honestly. I do think that this year and maybe the next will be bad for markets due to international issues, though. From what i can tell, the US does have some issues, but nothing to become a repeat of 2009. After that, the bull market will return.

I've thought the market was Frothy for about a year. Never really made any bets on it, though.

is it inappropriate to ask what you do? I respect your opinion on this board and that's pretty rare. You talk like your in the business.

I'm in banking. My background in fund management is where I got most of my global macro experience, though.

L2 is a swift kick in the nuts. L3 is more like a series of soft flicks to the nuts that just beats you into submission.
