My favorite ever MT thread

It has been about 8 months since lsutraderman gave us the skinny on these can't miss picks of the century stocks to watch. They were totally backed up by science! Let's see how his picks are doing.

BLUE was $135.89, now is $44.31 - Down 67.4%
RTRX was $31.38, now is $15.06 - Down 52.0%
CEMP was $38.04, now is $18.17 - Down 52.2%
TTPH was $44.01, now is $5.54 - Down 87.4%

For comparison, here is the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF:
VOO was $191.32, now is $192.7 - Up 0.7%

Maybe they will bounce back!

Lsutradesman in response:

LOL wow could you be any more ignorant? Haha its a tad comical, I was searching for other guys who understood biotech and you two clearly do not. Whether you choose to believe me or not, I don't have the power to pump and dump a $5B biotech company trading at $135/share lol this isn't a penny stock.

The only other thread he ever posted in

quote:

OMG I hope the gold or oil guys are kidding, neither of those is bouncing. Id say something in bioland like BLUE,JUNO,XLRN,CEMP,TTPH those 5 have nice potential over the next 12 months

quote:

No offense to the edward jones believers or bogleheads or whatever but there are people in the market who do understand specific sectors and have an edge in selecting names. Im not trying to come off as arrogant, but Im trying to say you're just wrong in saying my names are wrong. Like said come back in 12 months and lets see who outperformed who me or you, give me your 10 best names and ill give you mine.

And I really appreciate you shining a light on this and sharing it, it teaches a valuable lesson that I wish I would have learned a few months ago.....when I held EXXI and didn't take my profits because of some "insight" by random yahoo finance board posters. That didn't work out so well for me

The concept of buying stock based on any posters MT recommendation is insane to me. I don't think people realize that you could spend your entire life (8 hours + per day) trading and still never make money. Yet Joe Blow on MT can read a financial statement and make an accurate prediction

Kinda kicking a guy when he's down but it's a good bump anyway. Way back many years ago there was an MT poster who called, almost exactly, the bottom of the '09 stock market (literally +-3 days). I've occasionally regretted not acting on that post, which seems genius in retrospect. But this reminds me that it's just as likely that I'd have followed the "advice" by lsutraderman, and lost my shirt.

I think there are a bunch of good posters on MT board with good recommendations but I think the main lesson here is you should always do your own research before buying.

We had a good time with that one. Wish it hadn't gotten a anchored. Haha.

I got to say though, I never really fussed with biotech too much and actually made some decent returns shorting biotech because of that thread.

I decided that he was a complete flake (or troll) in that thread, when he suggested that the OP should put his home purchase nest egg in biotech stocks. What was the pseudo logic that he came up with? Because people who knew the science had "derisked" them (what the heck does that even mean?!)

Gosh, he was just "special".

Not sure if he recommended SRPT, but it's about to get decimated. Prayers sent to anybody holding it.

I've been following that a bit. Textbook example of how not to present data to the FDA. I feel for the management a bit because there's so much riding on it, but still, to get approved, you've got to show your drug works.
