This isn't even debatable. It's laughable.

Been charting COP and XOM. Prices are below some important moving averages. Entire stock market looks shaky to me. S&P500 50dma on crash course to move below 100 (weekly). See: 2008-2009 for the last time that happened.

Personally waiting 'til late 2016, early 2017 to pickup some deals.

Well rdsb and cop are already at their lowest points in comparison to 2008

I have a hard time seeing them really dipping much lower, so I'm gathering some at the already historic lows rather than try to guess a bottom that most likely has already been hit.

Do you think COP will take another plunge Thursday after they release their earnings?

I'm following your lead, cop is a 70-80+ dollar stock selling at half price right now. I'm buying it right now for what it cost over 11 years ago and am focused on its value 15 years from now. I doubt there will be anything to regret.

And the oil glut will not be a lasting thing. The world population is growing and developing at a crazy rate. Oil and NG will be strong until long after we're dead.

I got crushed today on COP. I am in at 38.20 and was hoping to sell yesterday. I guess I'm in it for a while until it decides to go green for me.

Any data to back this up? China seems to indicate otherwise.

I'm waiting on most new purchases for banks to release earnings. Again, I did buy more CVX, and did this due to their downstream operations which should mitigate the lower cost of oil, but not a lot of it.

I might miss the bottom. I have absolutely no way of knowing this. What I do know, based on the past, is that having cash isn't always a bad thing. And there is always opportunity. I remember several opportunities where I had no money. No cash, and literally wasn't making enough money to invest. It wasn't that long ago frankly. The man that is now my senior partner, and the guy I'm buying out, told me not to sweat it. He said there will always be opportunity, learn to be patient and wait. He was right. Or at least he has been right up until now.

Honestly, although there are parts, major parts, of buy and hold that I disagree with, I'm mostly a buy and hold guy for the vast majority of my investments. I do play with some speculative stuff, but I'm trying to get away from looking a the market every day. I've been getting better at it lately. I'll go an entire week without checking my investments. I don't really need to after years of hard work and being disciplined, and I don't really want to that much anymore either.

So that's where I'm at with oil, and a lot of other stuff. Life is way too short. I need to enjoy it a lot more after years of sacrifice to get to a point where I can slow down a smidge.

Global population is growing at an exponential rate baw... and yes more people = burning up more oil. Demand will go up and prices will go up in time.

world human population... As of July 2015, it was estimated at 7.3 billion.[1] The United Nations estimates it will increase to 11.2 billion in the year 2100.[1]

What percentage of your portfolios are you guys devoting to energy in general and/or individual O&G securities specifically?

Not trying to be nosy. Just curious.
