It was BEC. I passed the first three on first attempt and then got a 74 on BEC and had to retake

But all passed now.

To all other CPA's, while I'm still relatively in study mode, are there any other certs I should look into?

I work for a small-mid size CPA firm. I do audits (mostly governmental units, school districts, a few NFP's and for profit utility companies) and tax work. I am interested in forensic accounting in the future, so was thinking maybe a CFE?

would consider the CFE to compliment your CPA if you're on the audit side.

Congrats... man... that 74 is harsh.

Given your background and future ideas I would certainly consider a CFE.

Make sure you close the loop on CPA and get that goofy ethics exam and experience letters done.

How many years experience do you have?

Working on that now. Just trying to figure out exactly what I need to do for the ethics requirements

The state board should send you all of that information, but if you have any questions just give them a call. They are actually pretty easy to work with considering they are a government agency, and they are based in NOLA, so they are not dealing with all of the flood stuff.

Congrats! Take a big sigh of relief, then prepare to fill out a lot more tedious paperwork.

Its been a couple of years but I used Becker. I think Poodle just used free material from AICPA but he is a different breed. BTW, where has he been? Hope he didn't flood.

As I said, its been a while but I think they are just looking to verify experience. I worked under an EA for 4 years before I took the test. He wrote a letter and they accepted that as a valid reference. I know people who owned their own practice and used that as their reference/qualified experience.

I used Becker and really liked it. It's expensive, but my firm paid for it (I would think most firms offer something similar)

Might be different for Louisiana. I'm in Ohio. I took the exams, and then I had to have my experience verified by a CPA, or other "qualified accountant with a different designation". The partner at my firm is obviously a CPA, so he just has to sign a piece of paper saying how long I worked here and what areas I worked on, and give his credentials. Again, you don't have to worry about that until after the exams (Pretty sure that is the same across most every state)

I had my posting privileges suspended for posting that I would rather watch my daughter be forcibly violated by members of a certain religion than pay the transfer fees for two soccer players. I offended the tender sensibilities of one, or more, of the Soccer Board regulars. I was informed that it was necessary for the Administrators to review the history of my posts for quality control purposes.

To get back on topic, congrats to the OP. I'd pursue whatever certifications your employer is willing, or able, to pay for the training as CPE. You will have to pay for the exams, but they should have no issues with paying for at least 40 hours per year.

Well that's unfortunate. Suspended due to the soccer board, such a travesty.

Unless I'm mistaken your in BR, correct? Made it out ok with the flood?

Yes, my home is at least 6 feet above the level at which water was collecting on Perkins Road. I was shocked by how far above the flood waters I am, and I was regretting the decision to purchase flood insurance. That is until I got a better understanding of the costs of being uninsured.

What is the most depressing about it is that the poster who applauded the suspension regularly tolerates much less appropriate posts from others on the Soccer Board, and he demonstrates admirable tolerance on Political Talk.
