Yup. Plus, I really enjoy lunch. And as much as people claim that they will keep me in the loop once I retire, that's just not the way social circles maintain themselves

I'd like to semi retire at 60 and then just do a few consulting jobs each year to maintain some tax write offs for expenses and some travel.

Me too, but who knows what health insurance will cost people who actually work for a living in 20 years.

When I retire I want to open a consulting firm so I can work 15-20 hours a week and hunt and fish whenever I want.

So, your plan is to work until you are ready to die. No ambitions to travel the world, write a novel, hike a trail?

I plan on working until I can't anymore. I still have a retirement plan. I have life insurance, critical illness insurance, disability.

Just hedge my bets so nobody has to start a gofundme for my family.

I'm 27 and have both a retirement account and try to max out my Roth every single year. I seriously, seriously doubt social security will be there when I get old, and frick being a greeter at Walmart when I'm decrepit. I'll die sad and alone in an expensive retirement home thank you.

Why would anyone want to work forever? I'm trying to figure out how to retire ASAP!

On your 62nd birthday, the big brother to our last Great Recession hits. You get laid off. Even what few jobs there are, who will want to hire a 62 year old, when pick of the litter youngsters will work for food?

So... what's your plan, since you haven't saved for retirement, but now you've been forcefully retired? Livin' in a van down by the river?

Excellent point, I probably know a dozen or more people that had planned to work to 65 or 70 that were forced to retire by their companies at a earlier age.

To each his own. As far as working till you drop---F that. I retired at 62 on Dec 31st. Best thing I ever did. I get up when I feel like it. I hunt or fish whenever I want. I have time to work on duck blinds, do stuff on my property, go to the camp, or just take it easy. I highly recommend it. Now is the time to save if you hope to retire with ample resources.

Do you enjoy what you do for a living?

Yes. You never know what life brings you. My mom was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's at age 54. Had to quit work and was in a nursing home by 59 (costs 5K a month).

First of all, my condolences. Just lost my Aunt to this. Terrible disease

However, your moms case and my Aunt made me feel the opposite of wanting to retire. It makes me think live life while you are young and healthy and able to do so

Yes, but I enjoy hunting, fishing, being with my family, traveling, keeping my yard up, woodworking, general carpentry, being at the camp, working on my jeep, etc... way more than my job.

Sure. However, nothing on that list, possibly other than traveling, is intellectually stimulating in the least bit. I find my job tremendously stimulating and rewarding. Waking up every day, talking to the same half dozen people, and working with my hands sounds like a quick path to misery for me.

But that's me.

My company has a retirement plan option if you want to retire at 55. Years ago I asked a guy I work with that was 54 years old if he planned on retiring at age 55. I still laugh at his response, "Nope, but I plan to quit working."

You're right about keeping busy doing something to stay sharp but hopefully I can do that volunteering for charities and several mission trips each year, at least that's how I'd like to keep myself busy outside of traveling.

This is me too. My wife retired this past year at age 51. I have a goal of 55 or 56, and then I want to be able to volunteer more and go on mission trips with my church.

There is only one true policy, told to me by a federal judge back in the '80's: 55 and out!

Yep.

This is me. I'll always work in some capacity as long as my body and mind allows. But if you are not saving for retirement or setting up passive income stream investments for the future, you're a fool.

This is ironic since I know several federal judges holding on into their late 80s, for no apparent reason other than they can't give it up.
