I'm content with my job, but it is in no way my life. I could quit today (I'm 32) and find plenty of things to do and live quite a purposeful life.

My Dad just retired this fall at 59. In the past 6 months, he has tripled his garden size, built a pool (currently working on the pool house), visited 40+ states, and started wood working again in his shop. They just sold $4k worth of his stuff this weekend at a craft show in Tulsa.

I don't think he is about to roll over a die just because he is no longer going into the office everyday.

I enjoy my job, to an extent, but I would enjoy it a lot more if I was working 25 hours a week, not 55.

My old boss did the "I'm going to retire but still be a consultant" thing

It lasted about a year before he got annoyed by those 1-2 days of coming back to the office every week and just said "frick this, don't call me anymore"
