My Texas property taxes are alot higher than what my La state income taxes would be. A LOT!

HOWEVER, I can tangibly see the results of my property taxes within my own municipality and ISD in Texas. So I find it much more palatable than donating to the La. general fund.

You might be able to find better answers on smartasset.com. They report the median property tax in LA is $644/year.

I live in Texas too. My property taxes are going to be about $8,000 this year for my $300,000 home (Zillow estimate). The above website shows an estimate of my property taxes in LA using the same home value is about $1,600 per year.

My income would result in an estimated $5,368 in state taxes if I were to earn the same in LA.

So I am paying more in taxes, but I love what I'm getting. My neighborhood is awesome. I would have also paid more in private school tuition for my kids had I lived in BR.

I paid around 700 in property tax in LA and my income tax was 6%.

I pay almost 9k in property tax in TX. Which is less than what my wife and I would pay as income tax at the 6% rate. Also, I was in South LA, so insurance is significantly cheaper. It doesn't work the same for everyone, but it slightly swings in our favor.

That's pretty close to a wash, which is what I was going to say.

This is where Florida wins because of all the tourism taxes. But in general, most states you are paying pretty close to the same when all is said and done between state income tax, property tax, and state sales tax. Some states have 10%+ sales tax while others are 6% so that certainly adds up also.

It all depends on how you live as far as how things shake out.

If you make good money but have modest housing, it's definitely a win.

The game changer is kids. My property taxes are a hell of a lot cheaper than sending my two kids to private school in LA.

Yup. Texas is 8.5%. I'm in EBR and my property taxes are around $2500 plus the 10% sales tax. I paid over 20k last year in state sales tax in LA so unless I moved to a very high property tax area in Texas I would come out ahead.
