And canned goods.

I bet gasoline would suddenly become *very* valuable in this scenario, fwiw.

Whatever cash is in my wallet at the time, so $0-$60 or so. I really should keep more cash around, but I just never use it. Card for everything so I can keep track and to get the points.

This reminds me of the client I used to have (RIP, friend) who told me he was so worried about something like this, that he had about 75 1 oz gold bars in a safe deposit box in a bank vault in the basement of a downtown Houston skyscraper.

I told him, when the #%#% hits the fan, how exactly are you going to get into that vault?

Since this is hurricane season, we keep a small amount of cash at home. We have family out of state that is our evacuation destination. so we have enough cash to pay for a few tanks of gas (at inflated prices) and to pay for some supplies. If it's a smaller storm and we ride it out, it's enough to pay for a few days of stuff.

Will several cases of liquor have any trade value?

About $750, little more than 1k rounds and several guns plus ammo reloading setup!

I've got about $400 cash in my safe. It also has plenty of guns and ammo to keep my family safe for a few months. My deep freezer has enough food to keep us going for a couple of weeks, easily. My SHTF (south LA hurricane) plan includes making sure I've got enough gas to drive four hours to North LA where the rest of my family is located. I figure this is the worst it will get in my lifetime, so I'm not overly concerned about going off the grid too long.

I have $60 in my wallet. Only because I like to pay for my haircuts ($20) in cash. I feel like a millionaire in Super Cuts when I whip out a $20 for a $14 haircut and tell them to keep the change.

I always find it funny that people think that cash will do them any good in a real SHTF scenario. Even your gold isn't going to be worth much when you run out of clean drinking water.

I guess it really depends on what it means for the shite to hit the fan. We have an Electromagnetic impulse and everything goes down and no realistic time table for things to return to normal, then yeah those hundred dollar bills will be good to start a fire to keep you warm and otherwise will be useless. On the other hand something slightly more drastic than Katrina and cash could come in handy. Now talk about the Great Depression or even look at Greece and them limiting withdrawals to $150/ week, you better believe it would be nice to have a stash of cash.

I've never seen a $500 bill. Is that Joe Biden's pic?

I've got a little over 5k in my gun safe. I feared that the SHTF after Barack was elected and the country would go to shite.
