The company car thread reminded me to make my own thread about a similar question.

I have a company car that is 100% paid for by my company, insurance too. I pay for all gas and maintenance on my personal CC and I get reimbursed every month.

I currently put all gas and expenses on either my Chase Freedom card or American Express Preferred card, depending if gas stating are the 5% reward on Freedom or not.

I signed up for Exxon/Mobile Plenti rewards program yesterday. I am not even sure what it does, but a coworker was ranting and raving about it. I will be able to accumulate some savings to use on my personal vehicle, thats all I know.

Given my situation, what else could I do to maximize my rewards? I drive 2k-3k per month, so I fill up very often.

Second question. I am very ignorant when it comes to taxes and this is my first year with a company car. Can I report milage that I drive on my taxes for reimbursement? I do not own the car and I get reimbursed for any expenses, so my guess is no. Can my employer get reimbursed for any milage that I drive? Its a small family company, so if I cannot claim it, I would want them to do what they can to help.

Thanks

ETA: I see that there is a Plenti American Express card, I just got the reward card from Exxon/Mobile.

What are the benefits of the gas card?

You could probably save more by filling up at a cheaper station other than XOM than by only using them and getting rewards.

I am trying to find that out now. Its not a gas card, but a rewards card for several retailers. Rite-Aid, AT&T, XOM, and a few others. I do not know what their points to dollars ratio is, but its more than just using my CC alone. At least I believe that I can stack them together.

I get reimbursed for all expenses. So, $1/gal and $5/gal is the same.

Since the company is reimbursing him for gas, I doubt he's worried about the gas price and is probably more concerned about maximizing any additional benefits he can from using his credit card.

You mean you don't want to get audited.

No you can't. They will write it off, but probably not as "mileage"

Well, correct. I just wanted to ensure that I could not claim the milage for myself.

Oh, I see. Yeah I would go for it if you get reimbursed.

I already get better points/dollar with the card combo that I have. I am looking for ways to maximize rewards programs on non credit cards.

And if I can get a reimbursement on milage or not.

I think this is the main benefit, as Plenti only gives you 1 point per GALLON of gas, not per dollar spent. So 20 gallons (at ~$50) is only 20 points.

I can't believe Amex launched Plenti in such a shitty state.

I assume they are either going to murder it in its crib or its a dry run of some kind.

Exactly. The gas side of the rewards program is shite. But, its stackable on top of what I am already doing.
