I was wondering if anyone has done this and if so how long did it take to get your refund?

I closed last month and mailed in my amended tax return on July 3rd. Just wondering if it's weeks or months I'm looking at.

Its a tax credit.. Couldnt you technically just deduct it from your payroll and you will be even come tax time next year?

What paperwork do you have to mail in to get the credit? I close next Thursday.

I dunno, it wasn't something she discussed with me other than to say she closed on the house a week ago today and then last Thursday was at H&R Block having the amended return done.

Can you find out and get back to me? I know there is a federal form. I can remember the form, but it can be found on the net. I just want to know what other paperwork is needed.

Thanks Bud

Just two forms. The 1040X and the 5405 - Just make sure if you want the money now (which I am sure you do) you check the box in Part I, C, on the 5405.

How is paying 8K less in taxes welfare? The only way its truely free money is if your tax burden is less than 8K. For everyone else you are just lowering your tax burden for one year. But for first time buyers in the long run they are paying that back in real estate taxes which they didnt pay before.

I closed on June 5. Mailed my amended return June 8. Money showed up in my account July 10. Seemed quick to me. My wife works with a guy that closed before I did and hes on week 12 of waiting. For what its worth I did throw in a copy of the Act of Sale and Hud doc for good measure. Not sure if that helped or not but it sure didn't hurt.

I closed on my house last friday. Does anyone see a problem with my waiting till I file my taxes next year to claim it. I am not sure if I want to go back and amend them.

You can wait to claim it next year. It's not something you have to amend and file for now.
