So my 17 year old daughter is going to Japan in June for an international band competition. She plans on taking at least $1000 but I don't want her to bring all cash. Any ideas or suggestions that can make it safer and easier for her?

Get her a credit card under your account?

This is what we did for our son when he went to the ProLife March. Worked fine and had no issues.

Agree that a credit card in her name under your account, with no foreign exchange fees, is a good option. Sure, you can go with a debit card or prepaid VISA, but the credit card provides a good safety net in case something goes awry. Kids do miss the group bus/plane/break an ankle, get arrested; airlines lose luggage requiring the purchase of clothes/shoes, etc. while traveling, and 1,000 other possibilities requiring extra funds. It's nice to have "extra" credit at her disposal so she can buy her way out of unforeseen circumstances, should it become necessary.
