Gotcha. The Rant is usually the only board I need to refrain from posting on after one too many, but the rant is usually best avoided in general.

I just lowered one of my chase cards CL by 15k to aim for getting the freedom. Any idea how long should I wait to apply? I have 4 cards in past 24 months so shouldn't be a problem.

I assume you meant you haven't gotten 4 cards in 24 months?
If that's the case, you can apply immediately.

Freedom would be my 5th application
Last 4
Delta gold 2014
Us air 2014
CSP 2015 summer
IHG. 2015 summer (lowered from 25k to 10k)
I think I should get auto approval.

If you don't get auto approved, don't call reconsideration. Just let it ride and let it go through on its own.
Might take 2 weeks but be patient.

Got it.
They've gotten pretty strict, and it's 4 apps/year. You're on the cusp .

Apparently this is the way to do it now. Call reconsideration if denied.

Teddy you see they added Rite Aid and Dollar General to Serve loads? I've got a few of those in a few mile radius of me as well. I'll probably try to unload a Staples card at Rite Aid in the coming days.

WWYD:
Friend and spouse are flying Anytime Award tickets costing them 67.5k points each on AA. I can find them similar flights for $350 each. I'm having a hard time not just buying them the damn flights and gaining control of 135k of their AA miles for $700.
I don't need the miles so to speak, so that's what's holding me back. Do I buy them just because it's a good deal, or is my points obsession getting the best of me?

That's a dumb move on their part unless they're flying first class. Terrible value on that mileage redemption.

Absolutely. That's why I'm contemplating on buying them. I could turn that in to a $10k flight, but like I said, I don't really "need" them. Just curious what the other point folks in here would do.
They just had some unexpected things pop up in the last few months and weren't really trying to spend another $700 on airfare on a trip they had planned. It happens.

I suppose if you know you'll use them within the next 2 years or so then I don't see a problem. The new chart is out so they probably won't make changes for at least that long.
If you know you have value under this new chart and you'll use the points under it then I think it's fine.
I don't know what personal odds are that you won't use them so that part is on you so it goes without saying if the odds get too high you won't use them then that's your answer.

I don't get this move at all. All you had to do was apply for the card and if not auto approved call reconsideration and move that line of credit around to make room for the Freedom. Lowering your credit limit on a Chase card doesn't make much sense to me.

Yep. Was looking for an I would/wouldn't kind of thing more than a rationale for doing it. hah. oh well. I have a couple weeks to get drunk and just pay for their flight and feel guilty later about buying points I don't "need"

I suppose just being proactive rather than reactive. Chase does require you move limits around for approval sometimes and it's not like he likely needs that CL for a hotel card.

I don't remember him saying what card it was exactly but nonetheless with a Freedom you only need $3000-$5000 limit. Max out your 5% categories at $1500 and move on to a different card that earns better bonuses on everyday spend.
Everything I've read said don't get rid of credit limits once you get them due to it hurting your debt to credit ratio and therefore your credit score. That's the only point I was getting it. It's a strategy I hadn't seen before.

If your overall credit limit is already maxed out you have zero chance of auto approval. If you voluntarily bring it down before applying then odds go up.
Furthermore, if you dont get auto approved, you can wait 2 weeks and since you have credit room, they will likely approve it without further action from you. I did this route just this past month.
If you had no room, then you have to call because you will get denied. Recent reports are that calling recon isn't going as well for many anymore and you really don't want to talk to Chase CSRs.
I have like 200k in overall credit limits so dumping 10,000 some where isn't going to hurt me.

Ya, I know you don't need a rationale I just didn't know how to answer it being such a personal individual choice.
I brought up the AA award chart as something I hope was something you hadn't thought about as a factor or else the whole post was worthless

I had 46k credit limit on 2 cards with chase. I want the freedom and eventually Hyatt. by lowering my limit on IHG by 15k, I should look better for computer auto approval and bypass the humans.
I'll be getting other cards from different companies to make up for the credit:debt deduction, but I wanted to lock in CSP and freedom since you can't get them now if you have a bunch of cards
